Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Whining dog with a squeaky toy

Hello

I have two Flat Coated Retrievers that are just over two years old and they both have their own traits as you'd expect.  If one of them has a squeaky toy he will 'squeak' it and then start to cry/whine/howl at the noise it makes.  The other dog will also play with the squeaky toys, but will not cry at them - however the other dog will even if he does not have one of them.  This has been going on for ages, so it's not something he's just started to do.

I don't see it as a problem, unless others say so, so I'd be interested to hear from anyone as to why he does it.

Thanks in advance for any advice
Tim

My mothers toy poodle bitch used to do this and hide her toy in her bed. The vet seemed to think she was broody and treating the toy as her pup.. ?

My GSD howls when my husbands mobile phone rings - no one else's and at no other ring tone, so I think they respond to certain sound frequencies!
I love it!!

It's not the crazy frog one is it? Whenever the advert comes on my 20 month old son starts to sing along "ding, ding, ding-a-ding" :-D
