my new rescue dog has tattoos in both ears. In his right ear he has IR and in his left ear he has 219. I've contacted the National Register but they couldn't help as UK dogs only have one ear tattooed. Can anyone else help? Gill

my import has both ears tatooed (same number in each) and i was able to register his number with the NDTR

I wanted to find out, if his tattoos are not from the UK, then where is he from? Why does he have letters in one ear and numbers in the other? The rescue kennels in Sheffield said they had never come across this type of tattoo before

What breed is he? I believe hunt hounds and racing greyhounds are tattooed in both ears.

hi gem313.. i dont know about tatoos, well not on dogs anyway lol.. but when i read your post a thought occured to me, could IR be country initials as in ireland maybe he was registered there. just a thought :-)
