- By lauragrimsby [gb] Date 11.06.05 19:07 UTC

- By ice_cosmos Date 11.06.05 19:09 UTC
You should not breed from a dog which has had demodex mange.
- By lauragrimsby [gb] Date 11.06.05 19:10 UTC
even when she has been cured
- By ice_cosmos Date 11.06.05 19:19 UTC
No - dogs normally have the mites present but if they have a low immune system they can not control the mites. This is where it becomes demodex mange. Susceptibility to immune problems is thought to be inherited, this is why she should never be bred from.

she had bald patching i have been using this stuff for 3 weeks and the hair is growing better so i can never breed her
- By ice_cosmos Date 11.06.05 19:24 UTC

funny girl i have been but do not no much about it my vet is not brill on shar peis
- By clutha [gb] Date 11.06.05 19:11 UTC
your vet doesnt have to be brill on shar-peis, he just needs to be brill on dogs and their medical conditions, including demodetic mange.
- By lauragrimsby [gb] Date 11.06.05 19:12 UTC
she is rubbish i just want to no more will it go away ?
- By oliversmum [gb] Date 11.06.05 19:14 UTC
I'm not experienced on this particular disorder, but like many other infections it won't go away by itself - you really need a vet to check her over.
- By lauragrimsby [gb] Date 11.06.05 19:17 UTC
i have the stuff to bath her in smells like white spirit just want to no if this is common to come back again
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 11.06.05 23:45 UTC
Any dog that has suffered from demodectic mange should not be bred from.
- By ice_cosmos Date 11.06.05 19:16 UTC
No it wont just go away - she will need to be treated.
- By oliversmum [gb] Date 11.06.05 19:11 UTC
You should really phone around and find a vet with some better knowledge on your breed. Do you know of any other breeders of shar peis in your area? These people can be of invaluable help.
- By lauragrimsby [gb] Date 11.06.05 19:13 UTC
i no noone who breed them i just thought i wud find some one on ere
- By ChristineW Date 12.06.05 09:11 UTC
Why has your day been ruined because you cannot breed from her?    Surely the health of your dog should be of paramount importance and trying to get her through this mange instead of thinking of all the £'s you have lost from not being able to breed from her?    Shame that some view their bitches as mere breeding machines to supply puppies for their whims and not what is best for the dog.
- By clutha [gb] Date 11.06.05 19:16 UTC
why is yor vet rubbish? dem mange is a pretty basic prob for most vets. i work at a rescue centre. we have dealt with sarcoptic and demodetic mange with our vet nunerous times with numerous breeds. the breed doesnt really have a bearing in this instance.
- By Dill [gb] Date 12.06.05 09:36 UTC
Breeding and Whelping and the care and feeding of the puppies afterwards puts an enormous strain on the bitches body and if she's had mange then its likely to come back.  In addition, as an immune problem it can be passed on to the pups, if they get mange the new owners won't be too pleased with you.

Your vet should be knowledgeable enough to know whether your girl has mange or not, has he/she done the proper tests or just made a diagnosis by looking at her & sent you away with the stuff to bathe her in? If the proper tests have been done, then you need to follow their advice until this clears up. Sadly, you will NOT be able to breed from her if she has this, regardless of whether it clears up or not. You never answered my previous post of what breeding your girl was?
