When I was in town the other day there was a advertisement in a pet shop window. It was asking for a new home for a 6month old white Siberian Husky, one blue eye, one brown eye. I own two Sibes but I was slightly worried about this advertisement. It looked like it had been written by a child. It said, "good with dogs and kids". There was no mention of why they were trying to rehome the dog or whether it is male or female. I took down the phone number on the advertisement but where do I go from here?

Each breeder I have known of the breed, makes the new owner sign a document stating that if you no longer want the dog you are to return it to the breeder and they wil find a new home for it. But, to me, the people who are trying to sell the puppy for £300 look like they're trying to cheat the system. It looks like they have thought, 'well, if we take the puppy back to the breeder we won't get refunded for the £500 (minimum) we payed for it in the first place.'

Should I phone the people up and make out that I'm interested in the puppy (which I am!) or should I hunt down the breeder and tell them?

There is no legal obligation to return the pup to it's owner. Once you buy a pup it is yours :(

Even if there's a signed contract? Because, I have been told that if there is a signed contract then it will stand up in the Court of Law!

Sorry, typing as Daisy was replying - such contracts are not enforceable unfortunately :(

I believe (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong :D ) that buying a pup is just like buying anything else and once the money has changed hands the legal title to the pup has changed hands as well. I understand that these contracts signed when a pup is purchased are fairly difficult to enforce. As someone else has said, the best thing is to try to find out who the breeder is and inform them.

If I was you and thought I could trace the breeders then certainly I'd contact them - if not, I'd then contact the number on the card and try and do some detective work from there.   If it was one of my puppies being sold on like that I'd be heartbroken and horrified and really appreciate someone being good enough to let me know about it.

Good luck, Teri :)

Thanks, I have a good idea on who the breeder might be. When I was buying my rescue, the breeder was letting new puppies go to new homes. There were only three left. Both males were white, one with one brown and one blue eye. Fairly local too. And the dates make sense. I feel like being a detective. Hopefully the puppy will end up in my hands! Then there will be no selling onwards!

The breeder and I have found out why this puppy is for sale and it's quite a sick story due to the original breeder's threats. I won't say anymore incase he comes on here and threatens me with the same things he threatened the new owners of his pups.
