Topic Dog Boards / General / Boxers - a breed apart?
- By Lorelei [gb] Date 11.06.05 10:47 UTC
It must be Saturday cos Im on CD :) Having 2 dogs leaves little time to do much else apart from work. Im now getting the hang of it! Boxers are well different to the dogs Ive had before as follows -
1. Boxer pups seem to growl for many reasons, at high volume and with mouths full of food. Playing with one you find its wee tail helicoptering as it growls happily and when you put your Gwen Bailey into practice and stop playing ( because of the growling) they sit and look like babies about to cry.
2. They will eat till they explode and eat anything, including other pups deposits if meals are delayed.
3 It takes a week to teach one to sit - he just looked baffled as the chicken ascended up his face and kept standing looking sad when it vanished!
4 Playing with tug toys is great, picking up a ball will take one a morning
5 Dont even suggest going out in the wet or getting up early for a nice game, a BOxers natural state is cosy and comfy.
6 Theyre not scared of anything. THis includes things they should worry about like Big Dog's reaction to a pup swinging on his tackle or tail, or eating his dinner after knocking the dish to the floor!
Now I wonder how typical Trio is of Boxers!

Hi Lorelei welcome to the wonderful world of being a boxer owner lol.Yes a boxer is a breed apart no wonder they are called the clowns of the dog world, ive had boxers for over 20yrs now and i cant imagine life without at least two or three wondering around my home. enjoy your baby

Oh yes, the wonderful world of boxers!!  I would never be without again I don't think!!

The little wiggly-bum that greets you, the look of pure comfort as they slowly push you off the sofa and take up the whole of it, the nose to nose with you cheeky look demanding to play when they feel that its time to play.....  I so want another one - just not enough room for 2 at my house!!

Cosy and comfy definitely sums it up with boxers - its all we can do to get Glaz to go out for a wee in the mornings, and then its a very lazy un-cocked leg wee before stumbling to the sofa and passing out again - we barely get an eyelid raised as we leave for work in the mornings!!  So very cute though when he's a sleepy boy - you can pull him around (you have to do this to be able to get into bed yourself ;-) ) without him even bothering to open an eye!!

Looking forward to hearing lots more about your new addition  :-)

:D Sounds perfectly normal and certainly a typical Boxer babe!

Yup people often say once you've had a Boxer your converted to owning
at least one Boxer continually......

Hmmmmm some how I've gone into overdrive and own 3 all at the same time :D
I luv em and thats from someone that grew up with GSD's...
Even my Mum is semi converted and can see why I've fallen for them as a breed.
Even though she's not really one for Boxer slobber :)

Hmm I've had one that is a bit of a prim n proper Boxer 'lady' and hated water or wet.
But the three girls I've got now are just 'lads' not ladies........they plough through all the puddles etc.
LOL!

Enjoy Trio's puppyhood they grow up so quickly - they never mature in brains just body! :D

Everything everyone has said is so true.

Once you have been owned by a Boxer you will never be without one.
I for my sins are owned by 2(would have more if i could)
Yes they growl when they play, the louder the growl the more fun they are having.

But beware they are not for everyone..........

Dont have a boxer if....... you  like a clean house.

Dont have a Boxer if........you want a nice garden they love digging/ ripping out shrubs, trees, great game ..... running around the garden with a rose bush in his mouth.

Dont have a boxer if....... you dont want to look a fool, when you tell people what a well trained dog you have........ then they see something more interesting than you , and pull you of your feet to get to it,then cause you are now down on the floor and at there level they think its playtime.... and jump & kiss you all over.

Dont have a Boxer.... if you cant put up with them "farting"......

But .. they would lay down there life for you without question, and love you till the day they die.

For all you Boxer folks  try this.......www.boxerdogplanet.com
