Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Discharge on Day 16 (post mating)
- By Guest [us] Date 07.06.05 21:21 UTC
My bitch was mated on the 20th and 23rd of May.  This past Sunday and Monday, I noticed a slight sticky dark brown/red discharge...first on her fur and later on her vulva after she urinated.  There is no smell to the discharge and it has been intermittent over the last 2 days (so far nothing today).  I phoned my vet who said that as long as it is intermittent, does not appear to be bothering her and there is no smell, we should just watch it.  If I notice frequent urination, drinking more water, or a foul smell, I should call him back. I couldn't find anything in the BOB or any other reference so was wondering if any one ever experienced this before?  Thanks in advance...

Yes, I think a small discharge is quite common, and reckoned to be a sign that they are in whelp (but please don't quote me...) .

If the discharge gets copious or smelly, get straight back to your vet, as this is not good, and could indicate pyometria

I thought if it was like a straw colour it was okay, not blood stained. Mind your if it's the end of her season it's normal.

Warm regards Susan
