Passes were here when I came back from my morning walk :D Just have to remember to put them in a prominant position as I do have a terrible habit of going off to shows without them and having to turn back about 20 miles down the road which really impresses the OH :D :D
- By ClaireyS Date 10.06.05 12:50 UTC
I hope my passes will be there when I get home otherwise I will start to worry :(
- By daisy13110 [gb] Date 13.06.05 17:58 UTC

Sum1 help...if im not showing my GSD. can i still bring her along to the blackpool show because someone told me i couldn't. fanxs :P
- By Moonmaiden Date 14.06.05 04:01 UTC
Only entered dogs can go into the show & they are very strict about leaving dogs in cars
- By archer [gb] Date 14.06.05 09:56 UTC
As MM says you cannot take unentered dogs. When you enter a champ show you get sent 'passes' for each dog entered. On entering the premises you have to show your passes and again on leaving...no passes no entry.
If you think about it a champ show can have many thousands of dogs entered per day ...all are trained to cope with the situation. If you then allow 'Joe Bloggs' to take along Tilly and Blackie it would not only be very stressful for the dogs but also very risky .

At southern counties they were giving out passes at the companion show so people could take their dogs around the main show, I was really surprised at this, but then most of the dogs there were show dogs whos owners were camping for the weekend.  I chose to leave mine in the car - more hands for carrying all the shopping :D :D
- By TigraGSD [gb] Date 14.06.05 12:55 UTC
O well that a shame. i wanted someone opinion on wot they tou of her. movin south now :(
- By Emily Rose [gb] Date 14.06.05 13:03 UTC
Just going on from what Archer said about passes, how have people found them to be in enforcing this?

We only went to 3 champ shows last year with dogs and only once were we asked for our passes when leaving the showground, I thought they were meant to ask for everyones?

Emily :)
- By ClaireyS Date 14.06.05 13:08 UTC
Ive been asked for my exit passes every single time :)
- By Moonmaiden Date 14.06.05 13:09 UTC
You wouldn't get your dog out without one at blackpool etc & at stafford they even opened my tailgate(dogs are in a transit box & they did ask first)to check the dogs against passes
- By archer [gb] Date 14.06.05 13:10 UTC
Blackpool is very strict...as is Leeds.I think it depends on the venue
Archer
- By Emily Rose [gb] Date 14.06.05 13:30 UTC
Well hopefully as we are doing Leeds and Blackpool, amongst others (:D) my mind will be put at rest and we will be asked for them :)

Sometimes though I think the on gate staff get fed up and just go off. :( Quite sad as it could mean anyone could walk out with anyone elses dog :(  You can take your dog if there is a unenterd dogs tent where you can leave them outside the gates.  But it is all benching and I wouldn't like to leave a young puppy on a bench without myself there to make sure it is OK.

if you want advice, why not take some photo's with you for some general advice. :)

WILL DO FANXS QUEEN BUT WOT THIS UNENTERED TENT THING? :p
- By Teri Date 16.06.05 02:30 UTC
Hi, some champ shows - but NOT all - have a tent set up outside the precincts of the show which has benching and/or cages for unentered dogs and is manned, sometimes by RSPCA officers for example.  There is usually (I think )a charge for this facility.  I've never used it personally (a) not all shows have them so it's a risk taking an unentered dog if you don't know for sure in advance; (b) in hot weather I personally find tents to be ridiculously hot and stuffy hence uncomfortable for dogs and wouldn't subject mine to it;  (c) I would imagine they are restricted to just how many dogs can be taken so presumably on a first come first served basis.

As I said I personally haven't used them and don't foresee myself doing so but some others may have had positive experiences of them.  HTH at least explains things.  Regards, Teri :)

We are leaving for Blackpool tomorrow, is there anyone else on here that is going up with a caravan or camper.  We will have the caravan there untill next Monday.

Teri, I have always found them useful.  If a show has one it says so in the scheduale, if it's not printed in the scheduale then we don't take spare dog/s and organise a walker or make sure we are home early!

The charge varies from £2 a dog and have heard it to be £10 a dog.  Normally no more then a fiver. (minamum donation)

In my experiance they have never been too busy, normally lots of benching is unused

Again in my expeiance as there is always at least one, normally 2 people at the tent it is well opend up to air to go though.  I would rather them there then in the car or even the house can get pretty warm and there is no air flow.

We do make a point of regually checking the dog and walking him and have always seen them as great.

The only small problem, as with all benching, their is always one dog that barks and makes lots of noise and won't shut up!!! :(

I also have never come across RSPCA officers manning them.  It's normally breed rescue society volenters, and do it with the money raised going to the breed rescue.

Hi all,

I inquired about unentered dog at Blackpool, the secretary said yes there would be a tent outside gate, they think it is Afgan Rescue running it this year. I don't know if they have limited space though and what you do if they run out of space. Cost normally £2.00 - £5.00 depending on length of time that dog is left.
