Hi there I was at my vets today with my boy and got talking about spaying bitches. The vet told me that it is almost certain that once spayed the bitch would become incontinent at some time in their life, possibly 2 weeks after, possibly 9 years after. Apparently this can be controlled with medication (not sure if the cost of this). Is this true? I have always had males but am thinking of getting a GSD bitch puppy and would like to know if this is indeed a problem. Any idea?

I always think how many people even men become incontinent with old age regardless of having an op or not.
We had an old bitch who had never been speyed she was PTS at 14 and she suffered from incontinence.
One of those things to weigh up and research and choose how you see fit.

Many elderly bitches develop a certain degree of incontinence, whether they're spayed or not. With bitches who are spayed young, the onset seems to be earlier than those who are spayed later or not at all.

I have 2 bitches I had spayed at 10 months both are now 10 and a half and are in full controll of their bladders love Sonja

My bitch became incontinent after being spayed. She is on Propalin syrup and so far it is working. My vet charges just under £9 for a 30ml bottle is depends on weight of dog how much is given.
there are tablets available instead of the syrup. Get yr vet to give u the perscription and buy online cheap...Its got to be worth a go..If yr vet doesn't agree, tell them they are greedy gits and find another vet.
