Today Callia is not her usual self. She's 5 months old and normally full of mischief.

I can't quite put my finger on what it may be. She was very quite this morning with only a little tail wag for me, not the usual full scale assault that I normally suffer. Then she went over into the corner and went back to sleep. Lethargic and miserable and has been like this up to now.

Her motions are all normal and regular, she is eating and drinking normally and isn't in any obvious pain when I touch her all over. Because everything else, apart from her general demeanour is normal I haven't yet taken her to the vet, but will be very soon if she doesn't perk up.

Could this have something to do with teething? She has recently lost a couple of teeth but certainly isn't finished.  Monsterman is his normal bumbling idiotic self so it's not something she's eaten, as they eat the same food. I walk her on lead and am with her when she is out in the garden at all times. I have ruled out most obvious things, but because she is normally so lively and never stops for breathe I am really concerned.

Has anybody else's pup had off days like this? None of my other pups seemed to suffer too much with teething but then, they are all different.

Could she possibly be coming up to 1st season??? I think she's a large breed, so probably not ?

Seriously, I had considered this but discounted it because, as you say, she's a large breed and also, although I know it's not set in stone, her mother, grandmother and fathers mother all came in between 10 and 18 months. I knew this would be an issue for us one day and thank god we have the room and facilities to cope with it. It's been a while since I last had a bitch in season.

I certainly won't be led by Monsterman, he's not very reliable in that department [JOKE] My breeder told me that many, many years ago, when he was fairly new to dogs, one of the methods he used was to rely on his boys behaviour as to when the girls first one started and he ended up with a litter from a maiden bitch that had shown no signs of pregnancy until the night before the pups arrived Sheer luck she only had 3 and the dogs were compatible for health, etc.

She's not at all swollen or puffy and the colour is normal so I don't think it's that but I will be keeping a close eye. Poor little girl, she's so, so miserable I don't know what to do for her, apart from lots of TLC and a possible vet trip. :( :(

Whats the weather like where you are its been warm and sunny down here, maybe she is feeling the heat a little and there fore having a can't be bothered day.

My 5 month old has just had a couple of off days.  She was eating but wasn't playing as much,  her nose was a bit too wet and her head was a bit warm. When she got up the next day I noticed she didn't have any front teeth! A day or so later she was back to her usual self and is now chewing everything and looks like shes trying to dislodge the back ones.

My poor chair legs!

Mine also had a couple of quieter days about that time. However Hook was a past master at looking close to death at home but by the time we got to the vet he was his usual full on self and the vet couldnt understand why I took him in!

Seriously if she is eating, drinking and pooing/peeing OK just keep an eye on her and Im sure she will soon be back to her normal self :) 

The weather here is nearly always appalling Karen :( If anything, I think she's become allergic to rain :P

Seriously, I don't think it was any outside influences that caused this "fit of depression". I'm glad to report that as of today, she is 100% back to her normal satanic self :D :D

I have an inkling that it could have been teeth, but more likely, growing pains. She was a bit stiff and was getting up as if she had strained herself. Now, as I am particularly paranoid where excercise for young dogs is concerned, I know that she hasn't been overdoing things. And when Mman was a pup, he went through a stage of groaning for days on end at his frantic growing stage around 6 months, so this ties in.

Being a bitch, she is also prone to bouts of moodiness, or early pmt as I call it, so any ailment with her seems to be magnified in comparison to my boy.

I now fully understand why my poor OH and Mman try to stay out of the way most of the time, living with 2 human bitches and 1 canine one! :D

Good to hear that normality has returned :D
