Piano (say it long) meaning quiet but also referring to the black and white keys :D
Domino - again black and white :D
http://www.behindthename.comYou can do a search with "dark" or "black" in the meaning so that might help you. There's some nice and some not so nice names so gave you the website so you can choose what you like! :)

"Knight" a play on words nice for a boy and also refering to night time as in dark or black!! just a thought!

great site thanks :-D and thanks for all the other suggestions ;-)
keep them coming please :-p

what about liquorice, one of my pups from a litter was named Fig because she was black and wrinkley

Harlequin? Chequer?

Someone once said that it was harder for them to name their dog than it was their children.... Has anyone else found this?

I think its more fun :D you can give any name to a dog and it won't get teased :D
I always thought that watever dog I had, I would call it Dyson as my last one cleared everything in site.... but am not allowed to by OH
My new pup is going to be called Breeze, but originally were going to call her Xena but decided this name is too common for a Rottie.
Kids names are picked, and they are not coming for a couple of years t.... (if I can help it)
Dill you have to be careful though, if you called a great big St. Bernard Flower, YOU might get some funny looks :D
We have had our puppies name picked for months - Deefer, as in 'D for' dog.

LOL Natalie,
Thats the whole point tho, you can call your dog flower and its not soo bad :D
Personally I like the names that are opposites - Chalkie for a black dog, Flower for a Dogue or Rottie, Demon/Duke for a Chihuahua/Bichon, there's an endless list of steroetype-defying names :D :D
Not another Deefa Dog! How many times have I heard that?
I like Humbug too. :-)
Actually it's supposed to be spelt "Deefer" which is how it's pronounced, and he doesn't want to meet you anymore he's very upset! ;-)
LOL@Colliemad :p
Don't care, like Kelly the bestest anyway!!! He's the one with the 'tude man! :D
Oh no! I thought Deefer was quite original :( I have never heard of a dog called Deefer before. We are going to have think of another one now!
This is the second name we have had to abort - we had thought of Ozzy (nothing to do with the Osbournes!), with the pup being an Aussie, and Ozzy being in the kennel name, we thought it fitted well, but we heard another dog called Ozzy in our local park so we couldn't have that either.
Oh well, back to square one!
No Nat, it's not original at all! It would be like having a dolphin and calling it Flipper! Eh, Colliemad?! ;-) Ozzy is good though and it doesn't matter if you heard one in the park, as long as you don't actually know them. When I announced my latest was going to be called Spy my mum said, what does it matter, you'll never call him by his real name anyway! He was called Spy for about 10 minutes, now it has evolved to Wiggy Monster! :p
LOL we have had our kitten for nearly two weeks and I don't think she has ever been called the same thing twice! It doesn't matter as much with a cat though, if they don't want to come to you, they won't no matter what you call them! :)
Oh I really liked Deefer, I have honestly never heard it before, and everyone (else) that have asked if we had thought of a name hadn't said they know a dog called Deefer.
We have just got back from Corfu, so I might have a look at one of these name dictionary things and see if I can find a nice Greek one. One the main names we call the kitten is Pudding so maybe we should have Dinner for the dog ;)
I quite like Jai if our puppy turns out to be a girl, but I should think there are many Jai's about.
I don't know, I will find one, we have got till October!
Colliesrus,
If I could do a smiley blowing a raspberry that is what you would see no so ner! Deef does have attitude and until he started doing agility we didn't actually know another Deefer, he usually ends up being called dufus anyway. Kelly is usually called monkey as he is one and he doesn't have attitude, just cheek bless him. Sol is just a red merle version of deef, laid back and easy going, very independent and completely in love with Kelly, my fault I suppose, having a male dog with a girls name is bound to cause confusion! ;-)
P.S You know I will have the last laugh when you win out of starters FOREVER and start panicking HA!HA!HA! :-D
LOL :D :D :D Indy has promised he will wait till next year and failing that I have worked out a way of kicking the last jump over on the way past. So HA!!! :p
Kelly's name makes him sound like some cool sheriff from a western! And he's still my favourite! ;-)
How come your collies are so laid back and mine are completely manic? Indy has once again managed to remove half his pad just by running around the park practising his, er, handbrake turns.

I had to train the Monster last night instead in the advanced class so he had a baptism by fire of snakes and pull throughs. Did them better than Indy!

What about 'Chess' or 'Chessy'?
you could be really unoriginal and call the pup midnight???!
prob a bit late what bout Raven ? i trained a pup and she was a blk lad called raven
In response to Dill I agree I have Phyllis N dudley Boxer !!!
I heard something somewhere that said if you call your dog by a human name you see it as part of your family as apposed to a doggy name. My dogs are been Billy and Arthur (surrogate children)... When I was young we had the usual sandy and bonnie....

I have a black pug boy named Spencer my daughter named him after Spencer Moon off Eastenders because she said he was so cute, she had a crush on the actor at the time !!
>When I was young we had the usual sandy and bonnie....
'Sandy' is short for Alexander or Sandra, and as for Bonnie Langford ... ;) :D

we've just named our rescue rottie Phoenix, but some black related names we found were: Shadow, Ebony, Raven, Vader, Dusk, Ash, pitch, midnight, star, Shady, Venus, Sooty, Pepsi, Cola, Knight, Gazer .
have a look on www.dogster.com there are thousands of dogs on there and u might find an unusual name u like. Thats where i start looking when im looking for a name!
you could think of a theme and then find names around that theme? our theme was technically american states as our staffie was called Indie, so we thought Phoenix would go nicely with it.
Maybe a theme to do with ur fave film, music, hobbies etc :) naming can be fun

Is your dog kc reg, as we didnt have a name for ours until his paperwork camr back. I took the 'black knight' bit from it whacked it into google and a few threads came up. One of which was about camelot and how merlin employed the black knight to keep watch on king arthurs cousin or nephew, (cant remember which). So our boy is called Merlin.

so many names hee hee hee we are sorting a list out to find our favourite :-D
yes Stann she will be k.c no papers through as yet they will hopefully be through in time before we pick her up
will see how it goes dont want to leave her too long without a name ;-)

My black and white cat is called Dasiy :)
How about Minstral from the black & white minstral show (know I am showing my age).
Nero for a boy meaning black in Italian or Nera for a girl

Onyx
Lynx, Inky, how about something Eskimoy - Igloo :)
I've got a Jai although he generally gets called JC. We also have a Kai as well.
Naming dogs is definitely the hardest thing ever. Like someone else said the future kids are already named but the dogs take ages. Just had to register Jai with the KC to do agility in competition and everything we came up with we couldnt have. Couldnt have anything with JC in the name as it is an affix. Ended up having Just Jai. Not very exciting!
What about Jet.
Thats what I wanted to call my last dog but my husband really wanted to call it Satan. He changed his mind when I brought home a toy poodle!

What about Tiko, I think it's a great name, although nothing to do with black and white. I've never heard of a dog called it before. I am getting a GSD pup soon and was wanting to call it that, but hubby and the kids think it's too unusual, (they have no taste!!!!)

its sooo hard isnt it lol i definately picked my kids names easier hee hee :-D
i like Jet and Meeka so far ( trying to get hubby to agree lmao ) and a few others that have a dark/balck meaning will be making a shortlist
thanks !!
if you want to suggest any more feel free i have till Monday lol
I am going to brag now, I have seen the photos of this puppy in question and it is the cutest thing ever! It needs a name that will suit her prettiness I think. Thanks for the pics and good luck with the name searching. When do you pick her up? :-)

thanks Tigerlilly :-D we think so but then again we are biased lol
hopefully all going well she comes home on Monday :-D
Good luck with her and make sure you tell us when you have decided on a name ;-)
