Supposed to be working from home today :rolleyes: but as usual, have been sidetracked by CD! ;)

So I thought I'd mix business with pleasure and see if any of you bright lot have any advice/thoughts for me.

I am trying to find a reasonably priced full Postcode map book that covers the whole of UK & Scotland. I was given this task a week ago and have looked in all the shops, WH Smith want £60 for one I've searched the web, ebay, Amazon etc and when I finally find what I think I want, they turn out to be in excess of £100.00. or they just give me the first 2 letters of all postcodes when I need them in their entirety!

I am now getting grief because I haven't managed to find the blasted thing yet, let alone started on my territory research so that I can submit my report.

Any ideas anyone?..................please

Actually, if you contact Royal Mail - you may well be able to get it from them - I think - though I'm not sure - that you can get one for your local area free - and it may be available on CD!

What do you need it for ? Couldn't you just use Streetmap or do you need to know where all the Post codes are ???

I need full postcodes for specific areas as our Business is in Glass/windscreen repair for the whole of UK/ Scotland and we have technicians that have their own postcoded areas to carry out the repairs. I need to find new areas for some of the techs as we are expanding their business and also we have just recruited another 6 guys who, after training will need their own new virgin territory so they can build a client list. But I need the map part so that I can define territories and then target postcodes for the areas that are suitable.

Hope this makes sense :) I'm in everybody's bad books today as they are relying on me to do this and I'm not coming up with the goods.................. think it's that lethargic Monday feeling :P

If you registered on the Royal Mail website as a buisness they'll let you search for a certain amount per day, sorry can't remember how many.

There used to be a service called 121 on the web that you could search post codes, even in Europe. You have to register but it was not that much. Used a few years to verify peoples addresses, don't know if its still in existance.

What you are looking for is called PAF data and is used by loads of companies for everything from market research to dispatching technicians. The full CD costs about £150 but the basic version should give you every thing you need (unless your marketing dept want to chip in!). It can be integrated with all of your systems be they billing or dispatch so that you only have to type in a house number and post code to get up a full address. Saves loads of time and is much more accurate than typing. As for a book form, sorry that went out with the ark :p

I have now found exactly what I'm looking for and the price was very reasonable.

And yes Bluebell, book form of anything may have gone out with the ark, but sometimes the oldest way is the more convenient and the best way to suit a particular purpose, starting to sound like my dear dad now...........and I'm not that old  :P

The reason I need it in book form is because when I go out to meet with the techs, neither of us carry any sort of multi media/computer equipment and we both need a point of reference to pin down and agree on postcodes that we need to expand upon. And not knowing the area up here yet, I haven't got addresses of any business, hence I need to find the Postcode of an area first, so we can then approach the business/fleet in that defined postcoded area. :)
