Has anybody had a bitch who doesn't seem to have had a proper season.  Only one spot of blood seen and only swollen (not very) for about 11 days.  Mated with proper ties on days 9 and 11 which are unheard of in this country in the breed although they are usually mated on these days in their country of origin.  Both dogs were up for it at the time and the male isn't one to just do it :d

Would dogs normally mate without her actually being in season?  They have both been proven.

My Tigger only ever has a couple of drops of blood and a swollen bum to let us know she is in season.  This gave us 9 puppies. I would imagine if they have tied all will be well.

Well. I had a Golden bitch like this. She wasn't going to be mated but I found her tied with my NEUTERED dog. So she was obviously ready. The thing was though, turned out she was on the verge of pyometra and this was why she'd had the odd seasons without bleeding (the previous one as well), she was spayed at the last moment and was okay.

Could it be a split season? My elder bitch had one - her daughter brought her in early, she bled for a few days, then nothing for a week. Then she had her proper season and was successfully mated. Except your girl sounds like this in reverse? :D Have you another in-season bitch who could have made her ovulate early? Why do they do this to us on the seasons we want to mate them?

She was actually 5 months late :d  God, why do we have dogs.  My other girls have been coming in early.

Well, thats power for the course - the above story relates to my girls second litter - the first litter came after she was 4 months late! :D :D

Split season.
If this occurs are they fertile on both seasons??I'm asking as  recently I took in a 1 year old bitch. My main bitch had  come into season 10 days before I got her and after she'd been with us 3 days she too came into season which lasted a little over 2 weeks.7 days later one of my other bitches came into season,as they do.
3 months on and the 1 year old has now got a swollen vulva and my male is very interested in her,no blood as yet but she's definately more swollen than normal.
Obviously I don't want to mate her she's far to young .Surely it's to close to be a second season and time wise to far apart to be a split season.
Not having had experience of it before I'd be grateful for any advice.

Had a Pomeranian once was in the house away from the boys for 5 weeks as we didn't want her to be pregnant.  Put her back with the boys and 12 weeks later hey presto 3 pups, which is a big litter for a Pomeranian.  She had shown no signs of being in season again but on the dates this would mean that she was caught 9 weeks into a season which i'm sure isn't possible.  So yes it can happen!!

I havew had full seasons as little as 16 weeks apart (counting from first day of one to first day of next), pain it the butt.

I had this happen and because of it we thought she was mated on day 18 but when she was palpated the vet was sure whelps were y9unger than 28 days, and she whelped on day 66 after mating and only a small litter.  I suspect she was only just around day 12 when mated and we should have mated her again.

With mine, she bled properly for 14 days, and was premate tested twice with negative result. (She normally bleeds right through). She then hardly lost at all, but again tests showed no ovulation. Then she seemed to start her season again from scratch, and was successfully mated on day 13 and 15 of her "second" season.

Tilda has just had a 'funny season', which presumably was why our trips to the stud dogs before at the 'right' time were fruitless.

No blood, no swelling.   She started bonking our neutered dog, so took smear, and she  had ovulated.   We served her, and 8 beautiful pups resulted

She actually started bleeding (just a little) after she had been mated.

If it had happened to anyone else, you would had thought they'd just not been observant :-) but we'd been watching like a hawk, as she was due on, and it was her last chance to have a first litter.

Forgot to add that she carried on with her season for nearly 10 days more than normal confirming that in fact she had had a false start to the season.  This was her third and final litter at 6 1/2.

was she due in season.one of my girls last year was due in season and had bled for only one day,but new she was due so was wary, used my old boy who is castrated but does not seem to care,to let me no what the story was.right enough at her 12th day he was jumoing about like a nutter so we mated her to the stud dog and again two days later, she went on to have 12 pups all well and fine.since then she has had normal seasons.it is called a clear/silent season just because there is no bleeding does not mean they can not have pups.keep good records of her seasons incase it happens again.
good luck
