Does anyone know what breed Fang is in Harry Potter???  I only ask as there is one in my local rescue centre which seems odd as they appear to be quite rare.  The only thing I can find out is that they are refered to as Boarhounds but this is extended to Great danes also..... ?????  

I think Fang is a Neopolitan Mastiff in the movie, hth :)

It's the "it's been on TV - let's get one" mentality.  We rescued a beautiful Afghan Hound (Sheba) who was with us for many happy years before she died of old age, but was at the Afghan Rescue because some total plonker had seen one on telly.  Jason King (can't remember the name of the programme - some detective codswallop) had one on his TV prog and was seen walking it a couple of times. 

This happens so often - I wish people wouldn't get "romantic" ideas about having a pet.  Dogs need tons and tons of loving care and attention - plenty of walks, good food, company, stimulants, socialisation - and that's just the pets! (I don't breed or show).

I dread to think how many Dallies and Great Danes and many many other breeds are out there in rescue situations thanks to media

It really annoys me and, of course, its the poor dog that loses out. There was an advert in DW a few months ago for DDBs with 'Hooch dogs' in paragraphs just incase someone wanted one but didn't know the breed

Then quite often the rescue centres won't involve the specific breed rescue, surely the are the best people to help in these sort of circumstances?

Lets hope that Neo gets a suitable home, as I'm sure they aren't suited to everyone :D
