"With effect from 2007, the Boston & District Canine Society will be holding a General Championship show in January at the Newark and Notts Showground.
The dates allocated for 2007 are Friday 5th and Saturday 6th January and the show will offer a set of Challenge Certificates for each of Irish Setters, Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Siberian Huskies, Newfoundlands, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Papillons and Shih Tzus.  There will also be a number of stakes and variety classes and, whilst there will not be any non-CC breeds scheduled for 2007, the Society has undertaken to introduce non-CC breed classes at future shows.
During the course of the General Committee's discussion, and the analysis of dog show entry statistics for allocating Challenge Certificates, it became apparent that there were a number of breeds with 'extra' sets of CCs available. There were no general or group societies or breed clubs needing CCs for these breeds or able to take on these additional Challenge Certificates.   Therefore, all those societies that had been granted Premier Open Show status were contacted to enquire whether they would wish to make an application for General Championship show status.  Nine societies applied and, after a thorough vetting process that included statements on how each society was working towards the Kennel Club's strategic objectives, the Committee approved the application from Boston & District Canine Society."

Just out of interest, sorry if I'm sound stupid...Will those breed who are getting scheduled be the only breeds with Breed classes?  That just seems abit silly to me if thats so...Or have a read it wrong?

"The Committee was particularly impressed with the Society's show management skills and the meticulous plans presented in support of its application for championship show status.  The General Committee was also pleased to note the Society's many and varied activities, including weekly ringcraft evenings and match meetings, educational seminars as well as members' social evenings and fund raising activities, which take place over and above its very popular licensed shows.
Said Ronnie Irving, Chairman of the Kennel Club: "The Kennel Club General Committee has been concerned for some time that not one new General Championship Show has been created in this country in the past thirty years.  This is not very encouraging to the organisers of open shows. The thinking behind setting up Premier Open Shows was to find a way of giving incentives to open show organisers to run better and better events. We are very pleased that one of those shows has now gone on to gain championship status."
Pat Dufty, Secretary of the Boston & District Canine Society spoke of the Society's reaction to the decision, saying:  "We are absolutely delighted with the Kennel Club's decision. We didn't even begin to imagine that this would happen when we took over the Society over twenty years ago, and are so grateful to everyone who has made the show the success it is and raised it to such a level that we have gained Championship show status."
I guess the other breed classes normally scheduled at their "Premier" event will go on as before.  Teri

I had thought the idea behind Premier shows was to help "B" list breed specialist judges gain more experience prior to giving CC's as their choice of Best of Breed qualifies for Crufts...... So if a B list judge cannot judge a breed with CC's at a premier open show, that puts pressure on the remaining open shows to spread judging appointments between judges who are all rounders plus bred specialists wanting to move up the lists and those wanting a start on the judging ladder. Or are there plans afoot to allow "B" list judges to give CC's?

Didn't know there weren't enough champ shows to give sibes CCs?????  That is mind boggling consdiering how recent a breed they are to the UK historicaly.  Only 25years.

We soooo didn't want another set, and we don't really understand why we have been allocated them.  We do have CC's at every possible Show, plus 2 Breed Shows, and we do get reasonable entries, but they are dropping this year already.

Sarah why would you not want another set of CC's? just wondered :-)

Lack of Judges, cost of showing, dilution of entries, lack of competition, over exposure of breed....plus absolutely useless time of year...all good sibes are working on the weekends :d  Showing is for the Summer lol

I have to say that you comment "that all good Sibes are working at the weekends". is a tad insulting. A lot of excellent Sibes are not worked and a lot still go to champshows in the winter. the biggest problem is finding a judge that has not judged in the last year or so. All the time its the same old faces and that i think is one reason why the entrys have dropped.

yes she may have been tongue in cheek and i guess i am so sick of people having a go cos not everybody races thier dogs. I might say that it would be great if we had a judge from another country :) ;)

Just out of interest Sarah..Do a  majority of sibe people also work their dogs then? 

There is always great encouragement to get people working their Sibes, as well as two Breed Clubs with full working calenders, there are 4 other main working organisations active in the Country.  There is nothing more beautiful and fulfilling than seeing the enjoyment of a dog doing what it loves, and quite frankly, what it was bred for. Really it is by far the best way to exercise Sibes, both mentally & physically ;-)

From a Show/Working perspective, at the last two Champ Shows, one with an all rounder one with a breed specialist approx 66% of the people there work as well as show their dogs - just a quick calculation, I may have missed some folk who work but I don't realise it :-)  These two shows were in the same area though!
