Hi Everyone,

I wrote on the board a few weeks ago about the lemon dalmatian puppy. Well I am going back on Saturday to choose my pup, and take it home. I can't stop thinking of her. I know she is lemon, and not the liver or black, but she is such a sweetie, and healthy too.

Everyone I talk to, and I say she is Lemon, says how disgusting etc, and they wouldn't bother, but I really like the colour etc.

She won't be KC REG or anything because of her colour, but she is healthy and her hearing is ok.

The breeders are asking £195 for her, and I don't think that is bad, as she has been well bred etc. What do you think?

Hi Guest,
Why don't you register on the Board - particularly if you want to put further questions on ;)  If you carefully sourced a reputable breeder, were shown proof of all the relevant health tests for both parents and for BAER testing of the puppies and you're satisfied with the temperament of the dam, litter, socialisation of them and general conditions in which they've been raised etc. (as a guest I can't find your previous post ;) ) then it all sounds fine to me.  I'm not a 100% sure on the average price for a well bred Dalmatian but I'd imagine that the price you are being charged for a non-standard puppy is approx half the usual price and not unreasonable at all for a puppy that has been bred and raised to a high standard - after all it costs just as much to a breeder to rear a non-standard or mismarked puppy as it does a show prospect ;)  Don't take any notice of nasty remarks made such as "disgusting" - they don't sound like the comments of dog lovers in general at all    Enjoy her when you finally have her in your arms and good luck!  Regards, Teri :)

Ditto what Teri says!

As long as she's been BAER tested and has a certificate for her hearing, a pet puppy's colour doesn't matter, as long as you like it!

I am sure JG will agree but the first ones to go in a litter are usually the patched ones and the bigger the patch the more people love them they usually like them because they are different which is probably partly the attraction with your little girl.  They can never be bred from but are perfectly healthy.  If you like her go for it ;)

Hi,
My sister-in-law breeds GSD and one of her bitches
throws out a Blue one in most of her litters.
I personally like it and it sells for more money.
But! you can't show it.
If you like her have her.

That doesn't read well at all :(   This board regularly warns guests that non-standard colours are never to be regarded as "more valuable" or "rare" and the wording of your post also suggests that this bitch is over bred from - perhaps you've just phrased it badly    Teri

Hi
Sorry Terri, I did Write as I was thinking not always good!
I'm not very experienced in the GSD
I don't get involved with the breeding of my sister-in-law.
As she has been breeding for years.
It's just, that if you like a dog and its for a pet, it doesn't
really matter does it? as long as it's in good health.
But!! I did like the blue GSD I didn't realise you could not show it!
But!! they always go for approx. £100.00 more than the others.
Regards
Denese

You can show them as in the UK there are no disqualifying faults however it is a fault & any GSD of this colour would also be faulted for the colour of the eyes being lighter than is required in the breed standard

They are no more valuable than any other GSD puppy from parents that have been health tested & not all that uncommon as one of the top stud dogs that many breeders line breed to carried the dilute gene that produces the lack of correct pigment Int Ch Rosehurst Chris can be found in many of the dilute GSDs around to day

Sorry but anyone who charges more for a dilute puppy is simply making money out of niave people
