Hi all. I have a litter of pups (all spoken for!) everything was going great we started weaning, mum has looked after them all so well, they are 3 weeks today then yesterday my worst nightmare happened. I fed the pups at 6am just some mashed pup food etc. They all eat they all drank, mum gave them a drink and they went to sleep. Unfortunatly one didnt wake up the way she went to sleep. She was the smallest pup but the first on her feet she is a real sweetie.
She became very limp and and everything was an effort i tried geting her to suckle and she wouldnt i tried bottle feeding i tried dropping milk into her mouth and she gaged on it.
So off to the vets i went in a mad panic when we got there the vets said they would put her on a drip to get fluids on and xray her do blood test etc to see what was going on. All i kept thinking about was reading about fading pup syndrome. I had to leave here there as i couldnt do anything else then the emotional rollercoaster started......
I got a phone call saying that the pup had right side heart faliure and things where very serious, Then another phone call from vet saying that he had xrayed and there was a blockage in the abdomen, Nurse then rang to say pup had passed feaces so no blockage and they where still investigating but the heart was sounding normal, Then another phone call from vet he has noticed that fluid has been leaking from "somewhere" into the lining of her stomach and he needed to get a sample because the blood test had comeback and there was low in protein. He said he would ring me back as soon as he had managed to get some of this liquid. He rang back an hour later to say he hadnt managed to get any liquid but had stopped her drip because he wasnt sure where the fluid might end up. He then started talking about kidney damage. I have said that if she isnt going to have quality of life and if she is in any pain what so ever then let her go.
The last time i spoke to him was at 7pm last night he said he would check on her in the night and he would ring me when he went in. I have had no phone call nothing the vets dont open for another 3 1/2 hours and i am going absolutly mental here. How is my baby? Is she still with us. I apologise that this post is so long but my main question was have anyone else experienced a young pup with a protein problem?
