Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Champion Titles

After a dog has won a champion title, does it get to keep it forever? Or does it have to keep winning to retain it?

Once you are a champion you are a champion in whatever discipline:

Showing, Field Trial, Agility, Obedience, Working Trials etc.

Once you have the 2 (or 3) CCs that are required, the dog is a champion for life.

Heehee, tohme, typing as you were posting :D  I did manage to come up with a quirky possibility though :P

Hi Ana,

The title is permanent ;)  The only thing that can change it is if for eg. a dog has only won the minimum required CCs (3 under different judges, one of which must be won when over 12 months on the first day of the show) and is for some reason disqualified from one of them - such as having won the CC from a class it was over qualified to be entered in.  As a general rule, exhibitors tend to announce a dog has won it's third CC and title but add the phrase "subject to KC confirmation" after such a statement - just in case ;)  however there is no KC rule which says they MUST do this.  Many, wisely IMO, prefer to wait until they receive their official "Champion Certificate" from the Kennel Club.

Thanks, I don't know much about showing, I meant more on the lines of agility and obedience titles.. are they also permanent?

Hi Ana,

Well tohme's already answered that ;)  -  but then I'm not sure if there are possibilities of disqualifications with their tickets too!  However if the Champion Certificate of confirmation is received from the KC (usually several weeks after the event in the case of the breed ring) then by that stage eligibility etc will have been confirmed so I shouldn't think there would be a likeliehood of disqualification.  I assume the same procedures are followed by the KC in other disciplines as to ascertaining eligibility.

Bottom line therefore would be IF it is a correctly qualified champion, the title is 100% permanent :P   Regards, Teri

There is a possibility of disqualification of course as in all things.............

There is always someone who will bring any "issues" to the attention of the relevant authorities...... ;)
