Hi everyone!

I am looking for a red merle dog with working ability for agility - is anyone out there planning a litter in the next year or so??? ......

Many thanks

Justine

Have you tried the Canen breeder in Wales or the Bryning breeder in Lancashire? Type their names into google and their websites come up.

Why do you particularly want a red merle? As for good working ability there are no guarantees you can simply choose a good working line and then hope. Are you aware of the reputation of merles for being difficult/untrainable? Red merles seem to be really popular in agility these days, a few years ago it was the red & white dogs simply because someone did well with that particular colour. :-(

I am not looking for a red merle because they seem to be popular elsewhere - I am seeking one simply because I have always preferred merles to solid colours and always will, no matter what the current agility 'trend' appears to be. As to their reputation of being untrainable, I fail to see how their coat colour alone affects their behaviour. I have owned several merles and, as an agility trainer, I can safely say that I have seen many more difficult solid colour collies than merles!
I appreciate that working ability is one of those great nature versus nurture topics but would hope that a dog from working lines rather than just show lines may well be more suited to agility, and that any breeders out there would be well aware of the abilities of their breed lines, which is why I stated I was looking for one for agility rather than showing.

I haven't heard about merles being more untrainable! Certainly the ones I know aren't! "Mad merles" ok maybe - but then a lot of solid colours are mad too!
The Canens and Brynings are quite a "new" line in agility, but the Canen ones I have seen are doing very well, they have a lot of drive and speed. The other one I like is Gemthorne, pure working again, have produced some VERY fast red and whites and a very very fast red merle!
littlegillies have you looked at their websites?

Bryning breed dogs with a wide range of colours and they do things like agility and flyall with them they are on the champdogs breeders list.
