Margot,
I am sorry I have searched through the web for the pages I was reading about mating two NBT Aussies and what effect this can have on the puppies health, and I just can not find it. As I said I remember it saying that some of the litter would be born with a shortened spine, but I can't really tell you any more than that.
Maybe someone else on here can help?

Daisy, I have been looking for this for over a week!
I have seen this before and it somehow led me to another site that had a lot more info, that was much easier to understand.
I am off to search again! :D
I know that with our breed the Spanish Water Dog we have decided not to take a risk of what might happen. I believe that there is a risk in some breeds of spina bifida and we'd rather not find out whether this is the case in our breed. We did once do an unrealised mating of 2 bobtails although the father must have been born with one vertebrae short of a full tail, so not actually a true bobtail as such. All the pups were fine but would not want to take this risk again knowingly. We only realised that he must have been born with one vertebrae short of a full tail when he was mated with a definite tailed bitch.
Nat, if you want to learn more information about aussies, genetics, health problems etc, check out http://www.ashgi.org/articles/gen_info.htm
It is very informative........ not sure if I sent you this link a while back, if I did, then sorry :D

Gabrielle,
I have already found this site but it doesn't have the detail that Margot was after about NBT Aussies. It is a good site for anyone that wants to know anything else though :D
Thanks anyway
Nat
