I have a three year old Brittany who is lovely but is terrible at jumping up at people and at going on furniture. I have tried lots of different training techniques but with little real success. Can anyone suggest any training techniques?

With regard to jumping up at people, I always used to turn my back on the dog with my arms folded and not say anything if he jumped up, he soon learned rather than gaining attention, the opposite happens. It was hard getting other people to do this though as they found it cute, particularly when he was a pup (not such fun now he's fully grown!)

We had the same problem with our Brittany and solved it by doing as Louisdog suggested and ignorning the dog.

If the dog jumps up then turn round and ignore him/her, telling them to SIT and dont do anything until the dog has sat down. If they jump up repeat the process, it important to make the dog sit before you let on to them. This does take time though, took or dog about 2 weeks to get the message.
