My friends got a semi long haired border collie, she had her spayed about 4months ago and now she keeps moulting and moulting her furs gone really thin and wirey, it this due to her being spayed or is she not getting enough of something in her food. She tried a anti hairloss shampoo but it didnt work how can she get her coat back healthy looking.

After spaying a bitch will loose her coat like she would after a liter.  Hair growh in bitches especially is linked with their reproductive hormones (it is in humans to a point as both dogs and humans haor stays ind the growth phase during pregnancy, so there is notable haior loss after).  This bitch has suddenly ben deprived of ehr hormones so has lost her coat.

Her coat will regrow, but will perhaps alter in texture and proportion of undercoat to topcoat, and hence forward rthe shedding pattern will be more like that of a male.  The Border collies of my aquaintance that are spayed grow back perfectly nice coats eventually, but in some breeds (Spaniels especially) the coats change dramatically for the worse.
