Hi.  My friend lives on a farm and her mum breeds great danes. Some one has started a rumer that one of the dogs and her miniature pony have mated and the dog is now expecting a litter of god knows what. Please, for the record, could somebody tell me that this isn't possible. I wish to show the people that think this is possible the reply.

Huh? Not something I have ever thought about but I'm pretty sure that this is not possible. Dog may have been feeling randy (my toy poodle will usually make do with a slipper or comfort blanket) and couldn't see the wood for the trees.

No, it's not possible for two different species to mate and produce offspring. Canines can only conceive to canines, and equines to equines. Nothing else is possible.

A Zebra and horse have produced I think it's called a Zebroid :d

Zebra's and donkeys can also produce hybrids but they are pretty similar in fairness.  Horses and donkeys can produce mules and dogs and wolves can breed too.
Dogs and ponies? ...........  No way!

That's because zebras and horses are both equines ... ;)

Donkeys, Horses,Ponies & Zebra are all of the same genus Equidae

Dogs & Wolves are of the same genus Canidae

Species from different genera cannot cross breed & produce offspring

Can you imagin if any animal could mate with anything??? lol what a variaty of creatures we would have :D

To be honest guest - anyone who believes or makes up such a rumour isn't worth your time anyway. Suggest that if they really believe the ned is in foal to a Great Dane they put their money with their mouth is and cough up with a deposit :D
