Hi Everybody,
I have 2 english bull terrier puppys one bitch and one male from the same litter. They are getting on perfect except one thing, the male keeps trying to get on the bitch's back! Is this normal as they are only 10 weeks old?!?!
When he does this she will growl and show her teeth to him, then he will back off but 1 minute later he is back doing it again! they get on great and love each others company. I know that when you have 2 puppys one needs to be the leader, but is the above part of this?
Any info would greatly be received.

im not sure about this but i have heard that a dominant dog will place hes two front paws on a dogs back to show he is boss.
are you planning to get your boy neutured as i think if you have a dog and a bitch together and if none of them have been done then the male will keep perstering the bitch.
but thats just what i think try and tell him off everytime he does it so he realises this is unacceptable behaviour

Do you mean the dog keeps mounting the bitch? If so, this is perfectly normal puppy behaviour, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the bitch doing it to the dog sometimes! Mounting has very many meanings for dogs - it's not just a sexual behaviour. I don't know much about bull terriers, but I've heard they can be quite bossy dogs - take care they don't start fighting for the upper hand when they become adolescents.
I wonder if you're aware that your male pup will be fertile from about 5 months of age, so when his sister comes into season (at round about 6 months) you'll need to keep them completely apart for at least 3 weeks until she's out of season again?
:)
Hi there, I have English Bull Terriers too.I expect that the dog is trying to mount the bitch, this is normal. They usually start doing this as soon as their eyes are open. The bitch to will have her turn too at the moment as she is only a baby, but this will become increasingly a problem as they grow older.
Siblings do not get on. You are only causing yourself a great deal of heartache for the future.
As soon as the dog is mature enough he will keep trying his luck, the bitch will become agressive and this will either end in a fight which you don't want to see or at the least your bitch becoming pregnant.
A bitch in season in the same house can cause the dog to become fruastrated.
Did you breed these animals yourself or has a breeder sold you them both? I would return one of them now before becoming too attached.

Sorry have only just replied, my internet hasnt been working for a while. Im very worried after reading about that. Since i put that post, they have calmed down alot. They are play fighting a bit but i assume thats normal as they are only 12 weeks old.
They were both sold to me by the breeder, but i really dont want to get rid of one, i feel im too attached now. :(
Are you saying that NO bull terrier(siblings) get on?
Any info would greatly be received.

hi
i have a 31/2 year old staffy and did have a bullie pup
my male staffy also kept on like this, there was alot of teeth bared but did not have any serious aggression problems! i had to give up my bullie pup due to a serious health problem even tho she bought from a reputable breeder!
good luck!
Hi there, We were actually told by a breeder who has been in the game for more than 40 years NOT to allow siblings to be rehoused together. We kept 2 bitches from our first litter, they got on ok in short doses but when they went, it was nasty. We had no option but to rehouse one, There should be an age difference between them to sort out the pecking order. if you are dead set in keeping them both maybe you should think about getting the boy neutered as once she starts coming into season you will drive him crazy. Hope it works out.
Cheers Ellie

You will definately have to do alot of one on one obedience training... They can get along and I personally think them being of opposite sex the better the chance of them not fighting...
I have heard of alot of people that took 2 males or 2 females from the same litter and in the end they fought pretty bad and had to be rehomed, then ones that got along perfectly fine. I think it depends on how you train them, how you socialize them ect. Its good to do things seperatley this way they bond more with you then eachother. Even if this means attending puppy class seperately. If you can do a class back to back and the other remains in the kennel till his/her turn that would be great.
Even if the male is fixed it will still drive him crazy when she comes into heat, I would maybe put ur male at someones house till her heat is over... Then if you are planning on fixing her (if you don't wanna deal with heats) fix her about 2-3 months after her heat to allow her body to get back to normal.
jmo I think they should be fine because they are of oposite sex :)

Thanks for everybodys advice, they have been getting on well so far.
The vet advised that we should have him neutered at 6 months. We should let the female have one season and then have her done after that, which we will do.
Fingers crossed, i hope everything works!:)
