Hi,

My japanese akita has sore skin on the top of her nose - it was scabby/crusty on the top but these have fallen off now leaving slightly raised reddish skin underneath. Any idea's?

Hi Paula,

Think I'd want a vet opinion :(  It could be she's started off with a small scratch that's now become an infection or fungus under the skin - both easily enough treated but the earlier the better to prevent scarring or permanent depigmentation of the area.

My hound usually has a sore on her nose and I know why!  She trys to bury stuff such as bones, toys etc but she does it by rubbing the top of her nose along the floor - as if she is burying with invisible dust.
Only this morning have I noticed a cut on the top of her nose because she had a little accident in the house last night and tried to bury it.

I wouldn't be rushing off to the vet for that unless it looked nasty or the dog wasn't right in herself.  Its quite normal for scabs to drop off exposing new pinkish skin.
