Topic Dog Boards / Showing / show at Newbury this week
- By JanW [fr] Date 01.06.05 13:27 UTC
I believe there is a large dog show in the Newbury area this week or weekend can anyone tell me the dates and what breeds are on which days, I am thinking about coming across from France to visit some friends and see the show at the same time!  Thanks

This would be the show that is only half an hour down the road from me which I managed to "overlook" and only realised a few days ago that I hadnt entered

Ah well, we are going to the companion show along side it instead, at least that way I can show Fagan my one ball wonder (who got a 2nd last week at a companion show :D )

Hiya Claire

I'm probably off on the wrong track as usual but did your Alfie win the Minor puppy class at bath last weekend?
- By ClaireyS Date 02.06.05 22:32 UTC
Hi Alli (sorry for delay, internet was down at work - no champ dogs ALL day  )

Yes it was my little Alfie that won minor puppy dog, he also beat the puppy dog but lost out to the bitch - im still grinning like a cheshire cat :D

were you there ??

Hiya

No Claire I wasn't down last weekend as the judge didn't suit my girl. I am however heading down tonight for tomorrow, A certain Mr Kane expressed an interest in my wee girl when he was judging up here in January so fingers, legs and everything else crossed that she hasn't changed that much and he still remembers her :D  In saying that she has been a bit off recently and I'll be happy if she stands for him to go over her and then moves nicely in the ring. The way I look at things now is that she has lots more years ahead of her and if I can get this standing and moving lark sorted now we have more chance in the future :D :D :D  Good luck with your boys at the companion show. Maybe I should just have entered that instead :D :D :D

Edited to add. well done with your boy and hope it's the first of many wins!!!!!!! Talk about you being blonde, the reason I posted this was to congratulate you lol

Well good luck for tomorrow, what is your number ? I am popping into the champ show tomorrow with my newly reinstated OH and his little girl before we go to the companion show ( :( ), I will have a look for you and come and meet your girl :)

ive just looked at the schedule for the companion show - all looks a bit serious
- By ice_queen Date 03.06.05 09:14 UTC
I also just looked at the schedule...And I'm sure one of the classes can't be had and another is wrongly named!!!!!  Off to check now! :)
- By ClaireyS Date 03.06.05 09:28 UTC
which class cant be had ? (good use of english by the both of us there !!)
- By ice_queen Date 03.06.05 09:58 UTC
I'm sure you can't have adult handling under pedigree classes and the Junior handling should be YKC stakes (judged on the dog, but handled by someone under the age of 18 (might now be 25) )

Yes my english is very poor today!!!!!!! I managed to knock more time off my running time...only 8 mins to knock off now to beat my personal best, think my brains gone dead know my legs work again!!!
- By ClaireyS Date 03.06.05 10:49 UTC
Why shoudl it be YKC stakes if it is an exemption / companion show ? Is the competition going to be stiff for junior handling ? Im taking my OH's daughter with me and was going to see if she wanted to have a go at junior handling, she has never done it before and is really shy so it wont be very encouraging for her if all the others in the ring are experts !! :D

But what I'm getting at, is under the pedigree classes it isn't junior handling! And the way the schedule is listed the winner of the adult handling and the junior handling can compete for BIS?  Everyone knows you don't need a good dog to go into junior handling, and at CDS you can have a cross breed as it is not done on the quality of the dog.  As it is listed with the pedigree classes and the definition they have given (must be owned by the handler or handlers parents) then it is the YKC class for CDS.  This is where the dog is judged, it's just handled by an under 18.  The class was evented I believe so that juniors could show their own dog and not have to worry about adults being able to get more out of the dog then a junior could of theres. :) I think! :)

Before when CDS where known as exemption shows, there was a maximum of 5 classes.  The 5th class could only be the YKC (then KCJO) class, where handlers didn't have to be members but the rules were it was handled by someone under 18 and was in their name or was in teh name of parents.  As far as I am aware this class can still be scheduled since the change to CDS.  We held this class at our exemption show year ago and had the BIS winner come from this class, a pet giant schuzer!!!!!

You may also notice that many junior handlers who are "experts" don't go into JH at CDS (with exception to those who only ever ant to win!), and if they do its for practise for a young puppy (or in my brother case to let the old 11 year old dog a triangle, of which he (the dog) jumped, galloped etc round the ring!!!!!!! (he hasn't been shown since crufts!)
- By ClaireyS Date 03.06.05 12:30 UTC
I see what you mean, I never realised that was what YKC was, I remember KCJO from my junior handling days but only ever competed in JHA classes.

I wonder if I should just let her handle one of the boys in a normal class, I just hope he doesnt pull her over

just a thought, as it is listed as junior handling I wonder if they will be judging the handler, because they also have adult handling ?
- By ice_queen Date 03.06.05 12:40 UTC
Thats where they have made a little boo boo I think.

As it is listed as handling, it shoudle be done on the handling, however if it is done on the handling the schedule order is wrong as tghey could not then compete for BIS because the dog has not won! It's all confusing me now!

Why don't you let her go into acouple of novelty classes? We but a 6 year old in the ring the other day for local dog class and he won the class on cute factor! :D
- By ClaireyS Date 03.06.05 12:48 UTC
She is 11 and dare I say NOT cute

I did wonder about the novelty classes because you dont have to do much and she isnt really used to handling the dogs, but do the novelty classes start after the pedigree ? if so its going to be a long day :(
- By ice_queen Date 03.06.05 14:07 UTC
Yes it will end up a long day...It looks to be the same judge on the saturday.....  However could just let her go into best 6 legs...that won't be toooo long!!!! :D
- By ClaireyS Date 03.06.05 14:32 UTC
Thats a plan, she has skinny long legs just like my Fagan :D :D
- By Alli [gb] Date 03.06.05 14:50 UTC
Will let you know my number shrtly, my oh has hidden the entry passes as usual :D
