I think my 4 month old english setter has swallowed the rubber part of a childs dummy. Can't be certain though, I just found the plastic part of the dummy in her mouth with the rubber bit bitten off and nowhere to be found. The voice of reason is telling me not to over-react, but equally I am quite worried. She is asleep at the moment and is otherwise absolutely fine. Has anyone else experienced similar??  Advise much appreciated ...

Since posting my previous message, I have had my vet look at my dog. The dummy end it would appear is in my dog's stomach and it is now a question of waiting to see whether it passes and what her response is over the next 24 hrs. .... :}

Hope all goes OK ;)  Many moons ago I had an 9 week old puppy who swallowed a small (when dry!!!) natural sponge in the middle of the night    I spoke to the vet (long story but we didn't know for sure if he'd actually swallowed the sponge, merely that it disappeared without explanation) and spent the next two hours reading how to resuscitate him in the case of an emergency.  I went through hell for sure - while puppy slept quietly as I tried to absorb (poor choice of word :P ) what to do in the event of an emergency :(   Just as I thought "nope, he'll have to have an emergency x-ray", up staggered a dopey, sleepy puppy, stretched out back legs one at a time and then gave a huge burp whereupon sponge suddenly appeared (slightly larger than it went in) and puppy lay down and went back to sleep :D   Never forgotten the experience - the fear, dread and then huge sense of relief so I can truly understand how you feel.   This is supposed to make you feel better BTW :D

Many thanks for your response. Rosie seems to be fine so far this morning, no sickness overnight and a good healthy appetite at breakfast.  What a dreadful experience for you, though.  My sympathies indeed.

Sure enough, 24 hrs later, +/- 30 mins, offending article re-appeared.  Phew!

GREAT NEWS!!!!! Gosh but they love to worry us :rolleyes: however providing they are OK in the end it's worth it.
