Hello.....

Need some advice on behalf of a friend .....She has a pup of 10 weeks and is trying to introduce a collar.....She tried the other day with a puppy collar and it drove the pup mad....she was very distressed and resorted to not moving about the house, cos when she moved she could feel ...

This was removed and today she has tried just a very thin peice of elastic.....this had the same results.....

Please has anyone any tips or suggestions...

I wouldn't try elastic bands they are horrible things!

Has she tried distracting her while she's wearing the collar?

Everytime she tries to get the collar off try playing with a toy and getting her mind off it.

Also try putting the collar on when she's just about to have her meal, or about to do something exciting!

I would only leave it on for a short period of time at first and then build from there.

None of this faffing about with elastic bands... use the collar, she will get used to it eventually.

Hope this helps some

I hope you don't think me being funny here ......but, NO they haven't used an elastic band in the rubber sense...(that would be awful) it is a band like the type you would put into a skirt or cuff.....

Thanks for your help...i will recommendthey go back to the collar ...it's just really difficult to distract her becuase she just doesn't move once she knows it's on ...thats it....she just stays still and won't even move for a treat

How long have they left it on for?

she has been putting on and taking off for the past few days.....for short periods...the other day she tried to leave it on and the pup just stops moving around.....

She's put it back on again this am....and she's just stuck to the floor looking all sad again....

Personally I'd put it on and leave it on. It's not hurting the pup, and is an essential thing for dogs to wear. It might sound harsh but it's really not. When the pup's woken up after a sleep wearing it it'll feel more normal. After a couple of days she won't notice it at all.

That's a very common reaction to having a collar on for the first time. The best thing to do is put it on her before each meal and every time your friend plays with the puppy. After a couple of day of that, put it on and leave it on. They always accept it after a few hours.

We started Poppy off with a cat collar as they are softer and not as wide, once she got used to that, we moved her on to a puppy collar.

Well yes....the band they have on her is not very wide and very very light.....but it is still freaking her
