We moved into this house nearly 2 months ago now and still haven't managed to sort out any bedroom wardrobes/furniture at a sensible price :(

The bedroom that we have wasn't a bedroom in a previous life it was a dining room, lots of lovely big bright airy windows with gorgeous views of the hills and masses of space ;) But all we have so far is our bed, an ancient chest of draws that does for putting the TV on and a load of boxes and suitcases :rolleyes:

I am now at the end of my tether, everytime I do the ironing (which admittedly isn't very often) I have no where to put all of our clothes, no matter how carefully I fold them and hang them off the back of the door they end up looking like we've slept in them.

I have looked around the second hand furniture shops, they seem to be more expensive than the likes of MFI. OH says that he will buy the wood and build them but I'm not so keen on the idea. He's quite good and practical with things like that but he doesn't get any spare time to do the simplist of jobs, let alone build wardrobes.  If I go down this route I just know that I will regret it, albeit he says it will work out cheaper.

I'm keen to keep it to a budget as we've just had to lay out for a new washing machine, fridge freezer and chest freezer for the dog food, so money is a tad tight. But I also want it to be good and solid.

Has anybody got any wonderful ideas? I've spent the last week searching online but haven't found anything that will come into my budget and to be honest, they are asking a lot of money for some very cheap and nasty looking furniture.

Any brainwaves gratefully received :) :)

Search on Ebay as I am sure you will get some bargains on there :)

you can buy clothing rails for £6.50 in argos, maybe you could use these until you find suitable furniture - at least then your clothes with stay crease free :)

See if there are any local carboot sale's.You can't beat them for a bargain.

Thanks guys :) The clothing rails sound like a good temporary solution, trouble is, knowing OH, they'll stay until the end of time if I'm not careful :D

A bit like an old orange box that doubled as a bedside table, "only for a few weeks" he says :rolleyes: What was supposed to be a few weeks turned into 3 bl***y years!!!!

But I'll also hunt out some carboot sales, if I can find the energy to get out of bed at the weekend

Forgot to say go to a local auction in your local town as you can pick up some real bargains there as well ! :)

On one of those 'house buying' programmes earlier this week I saw a clothes rail hung from the ceiling on a rope.  Hooks in ceiling with rope looped through and rail suspended from rope.  It suited the room but would be a great temporary solution to storage needs!

I just wish I could explain it better.  I'll look for a picture.

my friend got some brill bargins from house auctions!

Another not so sensible suggestion is to get your OH to stand in the corner of your bedroom and use him to hang your things on :D :D

I would personally look in the local paper at the weekend, IF people are desperate to shift something you can haggle. You can get a good bargain as often people are moving etc and don't want to take everything.

Some charity shops have second hand furniture really cheap (don't mean the ones exclusively for furniture).   If you're near a large town (can't remember where you moved to up here in the frozen North :P ) you may find some along the lines I'm talking about.

What a shock, I didn't know it was obligatory to keep my winter quilt and electric blanket along with the 2 monsters snuggled up close for what is judged in the more southern hemispheres to be.......shock, horror.........Summer! :D Flamin' June eeeh :P

Why not place a 'wanted' ad in your local supermarket? There are always people trying to get rid of furniture.

Use a broom or mop handle propped across your boxes to make a temporary clothes rail :)

There is a web site that helps people find uses for unwanted furnature, kind of the ultimate recycling. Now if I could just remember the name of the site..... Sure a search on google would do it.

Try ikea, we bought a couple of wardrobes of them, and chest of drawers, shelf units etc. All for under £150.00 last year. The wardrobes, are made of pine, no doors. But have a curtain across so you dont see any mess they where £29 each, a tall slim set of drawers, pine again. But with a plasticy front. Under £50. And to shelf units on wheel. Made out of canvas think thewy where £25 each. With loads of space on each one. And they are all really sturdy

My 5 year old has a shelf thingy in his room, Able to fit all his clothes on, some hung, and toys.

Me and hubby have a wardrobe each. The othe shelf unit has all my towells, bedding, sleeping bags, spare quilts, and family games. And junk. They have loads of space in them. They do however look quite modern. Which might not be what youre looking for. :)

I have only ever been to Ikea once as it wasn't local to where I used to live but I will source a branch up here and get looking.

Yes they sound modern but also very practical ;) And alas, practicality has to take precedence over my hearts desire, if I had my way, I would incur the national debt on antique furniture :P

Sounds like I could also get a kids bookcase there for a reasonable amount too. My daughter has been moaning on at me for one for ages as she's heartily sick of having to empty her boxes to get at her books.

Try and get a copy of the catalogue, or look online. I think you have to be eagle eyed with the catalogue though. As personally I dont think its very clear.
