One of my puppies has white nails normally they are either clear or black.  Is this a sign of something?  This is definately me having a break for a long time from breeding after this batch go!!!!!

Nail pigment is usually the same as the darkest pigment in the coat or skin ie black & tan - black nails.  Brown spotted - brown nails and a more confusing one....black pigmented red sable - black.  If there are white markings on the feet the nails can be colourless which can look white.  You obviously see a difference in this pup and colourless though.  How old are the pups, have they got their spots yet?  Could it be a lemon?

Julie, in dals the nails will be clear unless there's a spot on the end of the toe where the nail grows from, when the nail will be coloured the same as the spot, either black for a black-spotted or brown for a liver-spotted. As lemons have black pigment I'm guessing they'd have black nails, and oranges would have brown. But I've never seen either so can't say that categorically.

Hi JG

Recessive yellow (ee) is one case where nail colour doesn't always follow skin pigment colour.  Yellow labs usually have pale nails.  Lemon and orange Dals are ee also so would probably have pale too though they could start off dark and get paler as does nose pigment in yellow Labs.

No definately not lemon got the biggest black patch you have ever seen!  His nails look a bit like when you get white marks on human nails.  All the others are the usual assortment of black and clear it is just him with white.

Black and white or white and black SWD's have white, black or white/black nails.  Looks so cute because the pads and the claw colour usually match the coat colour closest to that claw, bless.

Dunno then tts.  Its obviously not pigment related.
