Interesting data from the APBC on behaviour problems in dogs in 2004 by breed, types of problem and suggested reasons.

Some of the breeds might surprise you.....................in terms of which appeared most often.

Mongrel
Border Collie
Labrador
GSD
Cocker Spaniel
WHWT
SBT
CKCS
Yorkshire Terrier

Hi Tohme

The figures seem to be fairly representative in proportion to dog breeds owned by the public ie there are more mongrels owned than any single breed, at least in my area.  I am assuming they include Working Sheepdogs in with the BCs.

Maybe I would have expected Golden Retrievers and Springer Spaniels to be in there somewhere, given that large breeds are more likely to be reported than small.

Excluding of course the mongrel the top ten kc registered  breeds in 2003 were:

Labrador
GSD
Cocker
Springer
SBT
Golden Retriever
CKCS
WHWT
Boxer
Border Terrier

So although as you say, numbers play a part, they are obviously not the whole story.

Don't forget though that many pedigree dogs are bred and not registered.

This is of course true.

This why I queried the BC listing.  If they really do mean just KC registered BCs then they are above their expected position.  But it probably does include all the WS and unregisted sheepdogs that account for most of the "breed."

Interesting, although I am a little cautious of statistics. It could only indicate that it was the owners of dogs with 'serious' socilisation problems that went to a behaviourist!

"Springer Spaniel" is also included in the top ten

Very intriguing about the Jack Russels - in the top 10 for 2003 but only 10 in cases referred for 2004!
