I suspect my puppies may be coming down with kennel cough, they've only just turned 3 weeks old, so far 3 of them are sounding as if they have something caught in their throat, is there anything i can give them, what do you think their chances of pulling through are, i think it's pretty dangerous in young puppies isn't it? i've only had it in my older ones before.

Just thought i'd give you an update, 2 of the puppies were o.k after i posted but one got worse when she coughed she couldn't catch her breath and collapsed through lack of oxygen, the vet thought she may have swollen glands trapping her trachea so gave her a jab to take the swelling away, sadly we lost her today :-( a couple of hours later another started with the same symptomns, he is now at the vet in an oxygen tank on a drip, since coming home another has started, the vet has done an autopsy and nothing is abnormal i.e no swelling or scarring of the trachea but we're awaiting further tests on tissues and mucus but i feel helpless, they're now all on ab's but i feel i'm going to lose the whole litter one by one, has anyone else had anything like this??

I went through something very similar with a friend of mine and her litter of Mini Bull Terriers, so I can sympathise with what you are going through.

She lost 5 out of six puppies in a week, the last one survived, we think her survival was due to the vet deciding to use Baytril a/b's on her by injection.  He did warn us that the use of Baytril in a puppy as young as these were 2.1/2 weeks could possibly lead to problems later on in life, but it was decided that the risk was worth it, she is now a very healthy 6 year old with no problems whatsoever.

It may be worth discussing this option with your vet.

i lost my litter fcr two 1/2 years a go,and reading the two post above we did  the same with the puppies,each day 1 pup went down worst with back to the vet,but mine had high tempurters,with the result of the mucus going down into the lungs causing 2nd infections,like mengistes[NOT spelled like  that) chest infection resulting into fits,beacuse that at when i called it aday with 6 liver fcr,out of 9,it was the big one that were worst,the little ones over come it,
baytail like you stated can cause problem with the bones but you just got to wey it out at the time,

the bitch that had this litter is due to have a litter in july so hope there no kc around lighting cannot strike twice here,

There is a lot of KC around at the moment.  Around 20 dogs in our breed that had been to our club show on 23rd April cam e down with it. 

We were sharing the hall with a Gundog club of some sort so don't know if any of them were affected or if it came from that direction as we didn't hear any coughing of dogs in our breed all day.

I honestly thing that no-one brought actualy coughing dogs to the show but had a dog that wasn't showign symptoms yet.
