We are thinking of going abroad next year in either March or October ( got to avoid the cricket season) I thought Turkey would be a good destination, it has come reccomended and it would be warmer in those months than the bealerics etc.

Can anyone reccomend a Resort/hotel We have 3 kids age 10, 8 and 4 we like somewhere thats lively but not 18/30 lively if you know what i mean, but if the hotel had loads going on and was close to the beach it wouldnt matter that the resort was very quiet. The OH like's covey beaches so you can go crabbing etc, but it isnt essential.

Also we like to do one day trip, say to a water park or other attraction ?

Can anyone help

Another possibility was Tenerife ?

Hi Sarah Turkey is a beautiful country and the people are so friendly, i stayed in Icmeler last year and although i stayed at the Aqua Hotel i had a look around the other hotels while i was there and the Marti La-Perla Hotel looked great i'll definately be going there as soon as i can afford another holiday, its right on the beach and they were always doing something for the guests, Its very comfortably decorated and the food looked lovely, the link is here if you want to check it out, i'd shop around for travel agents though and look for the best deal at this hotel,

We go to Dalyan every year, its a lovely small resort it is in a conservation area the only thing is you are not on the beach you have to go on a boat to it through all the reed beds. You can go and see turtles and feed them but you have to get up at dawn to do this, my kids loved it.Do a google search on Dalyan and see what comes up.Everyone we have met there always go back year after year.

Can you reccomend a hotel, are there good places to eat or should we go all inclusive ?

also do you think it will be warm in October ?

I would recommend staying at Ali Ozalps villas I think he has a website if you do a search. These are self catering going all inclusive is not a great idea in Turkey as eating out tends to be very reasonable, and the choice of restaurants is fantastic.October will be a lovely time to go as it will have cooled down but the sea will be like a warm bath.Ali also does fantastic boat trips and barbecues on deserted beaches where the kids go and help him find bits of wood to get the barbecue going. He also lets him drive the boat. There is also the LeyLey restaurant which is a short taxi ride away ,this is a stork sanctuary and as you are eating the storks wander about.Rather than booking through a brochure it works out much cheaper to book your accomodation and buy flight only the place where you stay will arrange your transfers from the airport.Another good thing about Dalyan is it is only 30 mins from the airport but you are not on the flightpath, some resorts are 3 or 4 hours from the airport. We bought a villa there 3 years ago, and my parents have now retired there.

Hi Sarah, we have been 3 times and love Marmaris. Very lively at night if you want it but great in the day. It has it all, a lovely beach, great shops and market and loads of resturants. We would definately go back. I went when Tegan was 8 months old and the locals love kids, they were giving her free stuff etc. I ma sure you would love it there and there are plenty of appartments and hotels. Do a search on Marmaris and it will come up. Good luck.

p.s we went in October and the weather was gorgeous, slightly cool in the evenings but still hot in the day.

We're all good thanks. Dozer is getting very big, he is 16 weeks now and weighs 13.2 kg, which is 29 lb!

Marmaris really does have it all and I know you wont be dissapointed with it. Let me know how you get on with your search.

We went at the end of Sep and the weather was very hot but not uncomfortable. We've been to Gumbet and Marmaris I preferred Gumbet myself but saying that there wasn't a lot for kids there. If you go here    http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/   scroll down to Turkey discussion forum and ask any questions you have here.Lots of people on this forum actually live in Turkey and would be more than happy to make recommendations for you. When you have chosen your resort and have a few accommodations in mind go to the hotel reviews section and u can read what other people have said about their stay....this will help you to pic out the good places from the bad....belive me there are quite a few bad ones so be carefull.Turkey on the whole is a lovely country and the people are among the friendliest in the world...If you have children you'll be spoiled as all Turkish people love children.

Fancy that, we also stay with Ali Ozalp!! Also you can hire their boat and take it up to the lake for the day and have lunch at the garden of eden restaurant sitting up a tree!! then swim in thermal springs in the lake. Fantastic, would like a little place there myself but cant leave dogs for too long!

HI amos, I have never tried the restaurant on the lake but I have heard about it , I will definately try it when we go in August.Have you been up to the waterfall on the Yalikuvaki stream yet?. I think it was one of Alis nephews took us up there and then on to a restaurant up in the mountains totally uncommercialised lovely.Fortunately my eldest daughter stays at home and looks after the dogs and has her holiday seperately. Will you be in Dalyan this year?
- By Amos [in] Date 02.06.05 14:59 UTC
We havn't booked for this year but not sure if I can manage  a year without going!!
No, havn't seen the waterfall, sounds lovely.
Because there is 10 of us (2 families of 5) we usually take a whole boat out for the day and go either lake or beach, one of the Nephews takes us to bacardi or the other beach a couple of times usually too and we love the market on Saturday.
Last time we passed a couple of huge turtles whilst out snorkelling which was fantastic. The children all swam alongside them for a while, that was at the dolmus end of the beach and in all the years we have been going I didnt know they were around in the day, just thought they came up to the beach at night.
Which of Alis appartments do you stay in? We has Ali 3 and our freinds Ali 1

We always used to stay in Ali 1.We went out in April before the season started and it was really strange you can tell the Ex-pats because they always have a dog on a lead.A lot of the restaurants were shut and all the shops shut at 10.pm.It was still really warm.We are back in August for 4 weeks I cant wait.We still see quite a bit of Ali and Suzanne even though we dont stay there any more.Have you been on the moonlight cruise with Ali?.We went on 2 Years ago and he crashed the boat.Never a dull moment.
- By Amos [in] Date 03.06.05 00:04 UTC
yes done the moonlight trip but not with Ali, there is a strange assortment of dogs ther isnt there, I believe there must have  been a basset type of dog impregnating all the bitches at one time! did you see the amazing looking panda pup that belongs to the restaurant owner 'Roy' (if you head down from Ozalp and then carry on down where Ali keeps his boat it is on the left)
I am extreemly envious of your 4 weeks in August. Hope you have a great time.
