Topic Dog Boards / General / Sun out - Sunny day dog walkers!
- By kazz Date 27.05.05 22:12 UTC
Just like Sunday drivers used to be Sunny day dog walkers will be out in force.
Well with the half way decent weather we have at the moment I bet there are loads of people out over this weekend with their poor dogs. Dogs that never normaly go a walk will be dragged out by their stupid owners and pulled unwillingly in the heat around the park - the stupidity of some people occasionaly overwhelms me.
Where are they when its a brisk autumn day or a nice crisp winters morning?

In the house get a heatwave and off they go out with their dogs :-(

Mine will be out at 5.00 in the morning and maybe about 7/8ish in the evening

Know what you mean tho :(  loads of dogs were out at midday and up to 2 pm around here, poor things look kn*ckered out as they were being dragged about by their owners who never seem to be about when its dull/windy/wet/snowy  and the local park that does accept dogs will be heaving with heat stressed dogs tomorrow if its hot!!

I walk mine as you do - before sun heats up and after it cools down in the hot weather.

When we lived in Essex we walked the dogs in the local country park everyday throughout the year, usually the place was empty except for the stalwart dog walkers who braved the elements and kept an eye on the park reporting any vandalism /problems etc. Come the good weather it would be FULL of families giving the regulars dirty looks for daring to walk their dogs where their kids were playing - you also got the 'fair weather' dog walkers  with undersocialised dogs off the lead or tied up for hours in the hot sun outside the cafe :(.

We were always pleased when the weather reverted back to it's usual chilly greyness LOL :p.

I totally agree with everything said here.  Thank gawd it's a lot cooler now - back to walking at the usual hours (6am and 5pm).  I would have preferred to keep my pup to his usual routine, but a walk at 5pm yesterday was out of the question....it was too hot for me, and I was in shorts and a vest LOL

We still walk all day - the dogs would go bananas if we didn't  :D Bramble still insists on having his ball thrown throughout the walk, however hot it is :D We always let him set the pace tho'  - if he doesn't bring the ball back, we know he's had enough - even then, as soon as we get home he wants more throws in the garden. Tara's almost the same, but gets hotter quicker. I expect that they will show more restraint when they get old :)

Where on earth have you all been? Its been cold and raining and blowing a gale here for the last week. We were in Corfu less then 2 weeks ago and it was at least 30 degrees there so even yesterday when the sun did come out, it was probably around 20/22 degrees and it still felt cold!

Hi Kazz,

I think the most annoying thing, is the dogs are rarely on leads,
we only let ours off, if no one is about.
But! do have the extending leads.

I'm afraid I'm a sun shine bather!!! every think encluding the dogs,
get scrubbed more than usuall My Sams love it though.
NO!! hairdryers, only!! an aching back!

I know exactly what you mean and feel so sorry for the dogs. It's been extremely hot for the last couple of days and I have been walking mine before six in the morning and after 9 in the evening, which is what I do in the summer.

I know, i always avoid busy areas at the weekends in the summer, its a nightmare. Today i just stuck to the field behind the house and didn't meet a soul, bliss!

Yes, and on another subject, no matter how many times people are told via newspapers etc. they still insist on taking their dogs shopping with them, and then they leave them shut up in a car for ages in full sunlight and without hardly any ventilation. I told a car park attendant once about a distressed poodle lying on the parcel shelf of a Jaguar car, the poor little thing was baking. Apparently the owner, when found, said it was a rescue dog and was just a bit nervous. Perhaps the owners of these poor dogs should be made to go on long runs with lots of thick clothing on, and sit in cars until they are gasping to breathe, it might make them realise what the animal has to suffer.

We dont change our routine of walks when it gets hot just change what we do in them.  During the winter, walks at 6.30am, 1pm, 5pm and 9pm.  Loads of running around and chucking ball at 1pm and nice long walk at 5pm.  During the summer the long walk is 9pm and the ball comes out at 6am.  The other two walks are just ambling around the fields and woods.
