I HAVE A LONG HAIRED GERMAN SHEPHERD, MY QUESTION IS:
DO YOU CUT LONG HAIRED GERMAN SHEPHERD DOGS??
I HAVE BEEN TO TWO GROOMERS NOW ......ONE CUT THE HAIR.......ONE HAS TOLD ME "NEVER CUT THE HAIR!!!" AND WAS QUITE SHOCKED THAT THE OTHER GROOMER HAD DONE SO!

HELP ..... WHAT IS THE TRUTH  PLEASE!!!

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

No generally speaking you don't cut the coat, some trim the feet to tidy them up and sometimes thin out the back legs but I certainly never cut any of my long coats hair - regular daily grooming is esential though to prevent matting esp behind the ears, under belly and back legs - stick to the new groomer and purchase a slicker brush, this will help loads :)

My partner's mum made the mistake of taking the advice of a dog groomer and having her very long haired german shepherd clipped, as she was suffering in the intense heat a few summer's back. Anyway, she has never recovered and her hair seems ot be in a constant state of matts, which is painful for the dog, as well as extremely difficult to maintain for my partner's mum. I think the problem is that the undercoat, which is shorter, is knotting with the newly goring longer coat which is causing no end of problems. I would say you can trim around the legs, feet etc, but please don't go mad as, and I am only speaking from our experience, it was a real mistake to do this.

The fact that they are called LONG HAIRED should tell you that they are not to be cut/clippered,
the beauty of a long coat shepherd is their stunning coat.
