Our 2 year old Golden Retreiver was diagnosed with Patella Luxation, and we were advised that an operation would be best. On 4th April he had his first op, after 3 weeks he suddenly became lame.  We took him back to the Vet who operated a 2nd time.  Post op we were even more careful not to let him move about - only for toileting with the help of a 'belly belt'.  His progress seemed very slow and we took him for an ex-ray 3 days ago to find that the operation hadn't been a success.  The Vet said another operation was necessary and a splint/frame needed to be drilled into his hip/joint to keep his leg completely still, with another op 6 weeks later to remove the splintframe.  We have lost confidence in the Vet, and are at a loss as to what to do next -our once boisterous healthy (apart from his knee) beautiful dog, is now lame.  Has anyone else experienced similar and any advice what we should do next?  We are so sorry we had the operation in the first place, maybe he could have lived  a relatively comfortable life with the occasional dislocations!

You can ask for a second opinion and if you want to press for a referral to a specialist. I would be doing that right now.

i would not of let my vet do it in the first place, treat the vet as a gp good for all round treatment but when it comes to more in depth problem be referred to a specialst, as polly as stated.
there about do you live in,in the guildford area there a very good specialst.
