he nver has been big for a staff but it is always in the back of my mind is it something we are doing wrong he gets plenty of exercise especially at weekends, We currently feed him on a diet of pedigree sensitve lamb and rice in accordance to his current weight. I know alot of people dnt like pedigree for different reasons but after a serious bout of haermoroginal gastroenteritus this is what we were reccomended it is hypoalergenic and gluten free. and he is fine now and i would like him to have little more muscle so if anyone knows of a dietry suppliment to increase appitite and promote weight/muscle gain i would be very greatfull?    

He doesn't sound like he is seriously underweight.
My male staff (18 months) is 19 kilos and he has done an awful lot of growing since he was 12 months old.
If you can comfortably feel his ribs without being able to see them then he is probably fine.
Gaining weight slowly is much better for them.

my bitch is at the high end of the height scale (about same height as a large staff male) and at 2years old weighs 16 1/2kilos.  she is lean but very muscular and doesn't look underweight.  Please do not think your dog is underweight because he is not fat - theres loads of fat staffs where I live and people comment on the size of them but it is fat that makes up most of their bulk because they are under exercised.  What kind of exercise does he get.  i find that mine increases in size if she is getting lots of exercise over 'rough' terrain  e.g up hills and through forests etc rather than flat grassy areas.

Mine is 9 months and 16.4 KG. Dont forget  he will have lost a little puppy fat too so may have dropped a few pounds. He will gain weight steadily though and lots have people have said that they dont stop growing until about 2 years old so there is plenty of time.

Also, maybe he is just petite. Mine certainly is but I know he will fill out in due course.
