Title says it all really!

Every time I get 'caught' by clicking on a pdf. file (I try to avoid them like the plague) my computer freezes for ages and actually sometimes my internet connection crashes

I hate the things!!!!!

Am I the only person in the world who feels like this??  (OH doesn't seem to notice how long they take to load, but then he has no sense of time  )

Are you actually running the latest version? Also dont forget that it is often used to transfer big documents so it may take a while to down load.

yep running the latest, but why does the whole computer freeze?  why is a pdf file needed anyway - there are so many other types of file that are just as good and don't cause the ISP to crash!

It is the industry standard way of transfering documents. It shouldnt make the computer freeze, however it is sometimes used for very big documents so it may take a very long time to down load on a normal phone line. This in itself may cause problems as you isp may have a file size limit on it or may drop out half way through transfer.

most PDF files for the internet are pretty small
although a lot do still weigh in at over 1 meg and if your on dialup then thats going to take a hell of a time to download
and all the time its downloading your browser is waiting for it to arrive - thus effectivly locking up the `puter

also if you have a small amount of memory then the puter is going to freeze up again while it writes stuff to the hard drive

PDF files are used because they are more professional than other file types
PDF files cannot be altered as easily as other file types making it the ideal way to circulate manuals or forms such as entry forms for shows
They also print out exactly as they look
