PLEASE HELP.
I desperately need some advice about my puppy's nipping and biting.
He's 9 weeks old and often gets into an over excited mood and wants to
jump up - nipping and biting. What do I do?
He has loads of teething things to chew and bite - they
just don't seem to be enough. Is this normal? And will he grow out of it?
I'd be really grateful for some feedback at dawn.howard@free.fr
Hi Dawn
I think if youcheck other sections of the board under Behaviour you will see similar questions, everyone seems to be having the same trouble at the moment!!!
Me too as I have a Mad Bitey Puppy!
Just briefly, your pup is very normal so DON'T WORRY.
GEt a good puppy book, try Gewn Bailey's "The Perfect Puppy" from crosskeysbooks.com - this will help with biting and also generally, very good.
Make sure everyone in the family is consistent, from my experience the best way for our situation is to immediately leave the room for a minute, avooiding all contact with the pup. Or, remove the pup for a minute or two, but avoid turning i into a chase game.
If you are lucky you can yelp like a hurt pup when yours gets too rough, but a lot of pups think you are then their squeaky toy an dget over-excited and come back and nip you even more!!! But it does work with some pups so try this first perhaps. .
