Every time Lennon has a drink lately (and all of today) he coughs and spits some of it back up. He only drinks water. It sounds like it's "gone down the wrong hole". Has anyone had experience of this? I just wanted to touch base (stupid expression) before I rush him off to the vets in a panic! :) :)
Lennon is a 7 mth old JSI
Thanks all.......
Hi Vicki, maybe it is just that - it's going down the wrong hole! If he is drinking too fast or too much he will spit it back up. When my boys come back fro a run I have to supervise drinking time because they will drink masses in one go and throw some of it up. One thing I have found to help is raising the bowl off the ground to nearer nose level. The position seems to help them swallow better!
If he is ok with everything else and eating alright without choking he should be fine but as with everything if you are worried get him checked out. :-) If he is choking/coughing at other times it could be the start of kennel cough. :-(

Hi Colliesrus - thanks for that - he actually drinks from the bowl in his crate which is already elevated - but I think you're (and I'm) right - it's just drinking too fast - the little plonker! Everything else is fine, so I'm just gonna take it in my stride LOL :)

Hi Vicki,
One of my older boys was terrible for this - just a guzzler at the water bowl - always drinking far too fast and in greater quantities than any other dog I've ever seen  - basically guaranteed to barf some of it back up almost immediately!
The joys ...... Teri ;)

LOL - when he's at the water bowl, I'm beside him with a cloth! :)

Just an update really. This morning Lennon started the coughing and choking (sounds a bit dramatic!) when HE hadn't had a drink - so, sorryguts that I am, I whizzed him up the vets. Turns out his throat was swollen and vet thinks it's laryngitis - poor soldier. Injection to take the swelling down, and AB's for 5 days. Needless to say, Lennon is his usual cheerful and happy self :)
Bless him. If only they could tell us where it hurts. Hope he gets better soon.

Vicki ! Who's a bad mommy then :D :D :D Poor Loony (oops, Lennie :P ) being such a perfect guy has probably been serenading you and given himself a sore throat in the process :(
Methinks lots of TLC will ensure you're forgiven (and you should sing to him until your throat hurts during ridiculously long cuddling sessions!)
{hugs} to the little guy, Teri ;)

LOL - he's not having much trouble whining for a treat at this moment :) No, you greedy bugger, you're not having one - but thanks for the song! :D :D
