Hi all

I have a four month old chocolate Shar Pei who has a beautiful coat.  Recently I have noticed a couple of bald spots on his fur - they do not seem to be sore and are not in places where he would rub them either.  Both of my other Shar Pei went through stages at about 6 months of developing a horrid coat whilst the adult coat came through.  Beautiful afterwards.

Also I have read about hot spots and wondered if anyone could tell me more about these and if you think that is what they are?

Dutch is feed on Naturediet, flea'd and wormed regularly.

Thanks lots

Nic

Hot spots are localised inflammation, they are usually quite nasty in appearance with the skin being red raw and weeping. So it doesn't sound as if this is what your dog has got. I would ask the vet to check the bald patches out just in case there is a problem of some sort -ringworm for instance can cause bald spots and don't always have skin irritation.

Hi nic.
Mine gets those little bald patches now and then, not any soreness there at all.
The only thing i have done to clear them up is boiled water with salt added.
I just keep cleaning the patches like that through the day.
They dont last long:)

Hi Nic

From the sounds of it your girl is more than likely going through the good old puppy coat moult :-) Hot spots heal quickly with good old Flowers of Sulphur. Contact me if you need advise on where to purchase it, it can be quite difficult to get hold of these days.

Hope this helps
