Topic Dog Boards / General / Taking a puppy to France

I have had a enquiry about exporting a puppy to France.  Normally I wouldnt consider it but as I know a mutal friend and the dog is only going to France I was thinking about it.  Is there any reason we could not take the dog over by Eurotunnel to its destination?  If we do do they need the same things as if they were going via air.  The whole thing bewilders me but if I could actually take the dog over and see where it was going to live I would feel happier.  Any help appreciated.

Well, i'm French and i live here in England, i will take my dog over for the first time to France in 5 days. Are you taking the pup to his owner in France to stay? I think he needs at least to have his injections and the rabies injection before entering France. I also think he needs to have a microchip inserted. If you are taking him over, however, you won't be able to return to England with him without going through the quarantine even if you set up a passport as the dog is not allowed back in England till 6 months after the blood test to check that the rabies vaccination worked. Very complicated really and a lot of fuss for very little but they seem to be quite strict... Having said that i'm only going to use Eurotunnel to go over in 5 days so i'll be able to tell you more about it next week :0)

Thank you that was what I wanted to know.  I have never considered sending a dog overseas because of the trouble of getting it back if god forbid anything went wrong.
