Please may you tell me if £250 is alot of money for a cross breed pup? I thought it was a little steep????

Should I just go to a rescue and have a look there?

I think it depends.  If your getting the dog from maybe an accidetal mating where both parents however are healthy and the breeder is willing to give lifetime support, and maybe some of the money going to rescue, maybe it's an ok price.  If you can see both parents and know they have a good temprement and are friendly then again still no problem.

However if the pups are being sold for money or as a designer cross then no!

If your are at all unsure then go with your gut feeling and have alook at whats in the rescue centres.

If the pups are a deliberate designer cross ie they have been put together for a specific purpose in mind and both parents have been health checked then that price is reasonable; there are several that are crossed specifically for obedience/working trial competition.

If it was an accidental mating, then no...........

Sorry Tohme.  IMO Designer crosses are the stupid breeds with stupid names.  Yes I know breeds are crossed for working etc (I won't say my veiws because they are not asked for!) but to me that is just crossing.

Accidental matings happen sometimes.  But what your saying is if I had an accidental mating with my aussie to a BC, aslong as I say I did it for a good obedience dog then it would be ok to sell, if I tell the truth I shouldn't sell them at any price?  Why not if I was going to give £100 from each pup to aussie rescue and £100 to BC rescue, and £50 from each pup to help cover food etc etc etc etc (just to help the bank a little, I know £50 won't cover costs!

However my deliberate cross for my Labradoodle little is for a specific purpose with both parents health checked is also ok!? :D

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, as we all are.

Designer crosses may, IYO, be "stupid breeds" with "stupid names" however IMO some of them are excellent and have been made up into Working Trial and Obedience Champions because they have been "designed" for a specific purpose and fulfilled it extremely well.

Whether or not anyone donates anything to charity is of course entirely up to the individual whether or not they breed pedigree dogs or X breeds.

There are several cross breeds that have been health checked for several generations and have success that some pedigree dogs can only dream about! :D

I can see nowhere in my post where I suggested that you should not sell your accidental cross at any price?

I'd say yes, it is a lot of money for a crossbreed. I've seen them advertised for more like £150 in my area, with registered mismarked pedigrees going for £250.

i think selling one for a sum around £250 will defintally make any purchasers think before buying,as opposed to flogging them for £50 quid. so if people "think" then that is a good thing.
also if the parents are of good health & temperment then at least you have something to base your descision on.

i think when some designer Xs are sold for £1000,thaT  is OTT & you may infact be pricing out good owners that are just not prepared tp pay that for a X or any dog,but attract people with more money than sense & just fancy something abit different.

anyway if you like the parents then £250 is a little steep but not OTT,but if its made the guest "doubt" if they want one then thats a good thing???????
