I slept with mine for three weeks, then we had a baby alarm so we could hear them.

Until the eyes are open and use a baby monitor, especially in large or heavy breds with a large litter.

I had a puppy crushed by Mum in the night at a day old because she was simply exhausted as was I from not sleeping two nights in a row.

She had previously been so careful with her first litter of 9 (she had 6 this time), that I had never even considered it a possibility.  This breed is generally not clumsy and are very natural mothers but accidents can still happen, even pig rails wouldn't ahve helped in this case as the pup was in the middle of the whelping box.

Interesting that I did try sleeping in my own bed but couldn't settle, I actually slept better in the same room, I only really woke up when mum wanted to go out into the garden (she came and nudged me - bless)  or the pups started waking to feed, then it was a quick check that all was well and back to sleep :D :D

I sleept with my last litter for just over three weeks, then until they all left home i tried to be in bed by 11.30pm and up at 6.30am to start the day all over again. I use a wireless cctv camera to keep and eye on my pups, it is really useful. I set the alarm every couple of hours and just look at them on the telly, this way if all is well then you don't have to disturb mum. Also helps to keeps an eye on the bitch before she whelps so you can monitor when she starts labour without keep interupting her. My bitch is on day 56 and the camera decided to break today of all days so untill I get a new one tomorrow, I'm sleeping on the couch tonight!!!  I know its a bit early but she is huge and keeps panting and licking herself so not taking any chances.
