Topic Dog Boards / General / Plastic type fencing??
- By The Motley Crew [gb] Date 23.05.05 16:31 UTC
I popped along to the All Breeds Dog Show the other weekend and as we were walking through to the entrance we noticed that the caravans all had this plastic type fencing round them so that the dogs could see out. Some even had gates they'd made. Hopefully someone will know what I'm on about and can point me in the right direction of where I can buy some online or know where I can order it from.

Do you mean the orange stuff, that workmen have around holes in the road, or something posher?

It looks EXACTLY like that!!! Yay! You're gonna tell me now you don't know where I can get hold of some, aren't you LOL :)

It is often sold at agility shows along with the metal or plastic stakes to use as posts. It's the same stuff you see at the side of the road when there are gaps in fences left after accidents or when hole have been dug or around building sites. You may be able to get it at a builders merchants? I know Adams Agility do it but they aren't the cheapest. You could try posting a message on the agility forum via www.agilitynet.com someone on there will probably be able to help you. I don't know whether you will be able to buy it on line though as I got mine at an agility show :-) the plastic "fence posts" are the ones that are used for electric fencing and the gates are usually home-made.

Thank you thank you thank you...... I'm thrilled now! Just gotta find some to keep my 6 enclosed around the caravan LOL.... they keep ripping the windbreaks trying to see what's outside and then occasionally try to make a run for it to greet the poor passerby thinking EVERYONE want to pet them LOL. My thinking is that they will be able to see everyone passing by and won't need to go underneath......knowing my luck they'll try go through it LOL Oh well, we can but try :)

If they want to get out they will regardless of what you use unless you nail their feet to the floor LOL A friends of mine uses this fencing and windbreaks inside it, I have to peg mine down at the bottom or my pup would be off exploring! I don't leave mine unattended in the garden at a show and I do find that they like to shout at everyone going past. One of the first things I tell anyone new camping near us at a show is if they bark for any reason tell them to shut it and apart from looking surprised at strangers giving them instructions they do indeed shut it :-). They are not allowed to bark non stop at home so it isn't allowed at an agility show either! What dogs do you have?

LOL..... I used to have a beautiful collie cross whom I loved dearly until she was 16yrs old. It broke my heart. I now have 3 golden retrievers, 1 golden lab, 1 pointer cross a golden lab cross. The lab cross actually belongs to my 14yr old and he's really very keen on taking her to agility, but he has been told that he'd have to conquer the obedience first. He's trying really hard with her and she's just gone 2 now and has started to mature and pay attention :)

We use it round our caravan for our dogs garden. You get it and the fence poles to hold it from screw fix. The roll is about £22 but the metal spikes are about £40 for 20. I prefer the metal ones as they are strong and munster proof!!!!   Its a great way of letting the dogs have freedom without them wandering off.  Hope this helps.

Sorry I didnt get back before - yes, screwfix, they have a website and deliver next day. We got some for fencing off parts of the garden while weed killing and seeding. They can get under it though, so watch for them lifting it!

I have done LOADS of obedience training with mine and as soon as they realise how much fun agility is it all goes out of the window LOL. My first one is a complete loon but in a controlable way and he is a complete workaholic. If your son gets the chance to have a  go at training his dog to do it then go for it, you may find that any clubs local to you have a waiting list. She will probably go deaf and blind and stupid to start with  but she will soon settle :-) Just to make you feel better.... I know someone that has an obedience champion that does not wait at the start in an agility class...... ;-)

LOL..... fell off chair laughing :) I can just see our Sally running under the hurdles, over the tunnels and under the seasaw LOL

It's not a see-saw!!! It's a launch ramp for the next obstacle, it points up in the air so that they can get lots of speed up it's only silly people that think it should tip before your dog flies off the end ;-) Mine went off the end once and cleared a long jump after it without touching the ground or making the see-saw tip, it just sort of wobbled slightly as if a gust of wind had caught it..... scared the life out of me, he doesn't do THAT anymore!!

Edited.... I think that when you have male dogs neutered some of the brain cells get removed at the same time...... ;-)

TOLD you I don't know anything about agility LOL Did he get a prize for the launch pad mode???? LOL
Dee
- By colliemad Date 23.05.05 17:57 UTC

Forgot to say - for a gate we use an old baby gate that we dont need anymore, its the fixed type.
