Our pup was microchipped at her vets in Feb'05. Weve just recently got her neutered and when picking her up, we were told her chip had MOVED to her leg and because it took them some time to find they disappearing chip, they thought she wasnt chipped....and RECHIPPED her!! They did not contact us regarding chipping her, nor did they obviously check her records!
The vetinary now have said our dog will have to undergo general anaestitic AGAIN to remove the 2nd chip they put in!!!!
Obviously were extreamely annoyed and feel this is even more trauma for our little dog!
Does anyone know what can be done about this? For example..could the vets be reported for their mistake, and couldnt our dog just have 2 microchip numbers?
Please offer any advice?.....were cross and we dont wish to contact the vets involved untill we know where we stand, etc.
Thanks now!
I'm not sure it seems abit negilgent, especially because they could have just just looked at her records, i'm not suprised your very angry. I wouldn't have a clue where you stand on legal grounds. I'm sure someone will be able to help you on cd.
Regards Frank
Thankyou all for your replies to my query.
We ve decided to contact the vets tomorrow and tell them we just want to leave the second chip in.
Thait nks everyone, but one more thing.....does any one know, it cant do a pup any harm to have 2 chips in can it? I mean with one being in her leg and one in her neck..theres no risk of infection or anything like that is there?..Gosh, what a worrier i am!
Kind Regards
I would leave the both chips where they are, decline to pay for the second and make sure that both are registered in your name. If she does get lost there is double the chance now of her being re-united with you so I would look on this as a benefit.

I was told recently by a vet nurse who does chipping that two chips will interfere with each other and neither will be able to be read. I'm sure someone on here will know if that's true or not.

The two chips would interfere with each other if they were fairly close together so depending on the size of the dog they may or may not effect each other
Thanks again for everyones replies. My pup is a crossbreed (German Shepherd and Collie), so we envisage she ll grow quite large. One chip is in her neck, the other (the first chip)..has now wandered down to her right leg. Does anyone know if this is a safe distance apart for them still to still be readable then?
Kind Regards

They should read separately as they have to be fairly close together ie a couple of cms or less to affect each other
