Although to be honest, this could just as easily be called 'psycho dog owner' .

Any road up - there we are me and my boy (GSD X) and girl (SBT/Whippet) in our local dog walking park.  I notice a middle-aged bloke bending over and apparently telling the grass off.  I couldn't hear what he said but the tone and body language was of someone very p*ssed off.  He finally straightens up, turns on his heel and walks off revealing the smallest dog I have ever seen in my life.  It was a black chihuahua about the size of a baby rabbit.  My boy walks past, glances over and walks on. My girl does the same only to have the Mighty Atom leap off the ground and bury it's teeth in her neck, snarling like a rabid hamster.  Although we were all startled, obviously our lass is having none of this and our lad is just about to bring reinforcement with me galloping over to sort things out when the owner turns round, grabs the offender and, saying nothing to either me or my dogs, strides off with psychopooch jammed under his armpit, muttering imprecations (both dog and man).

When our adrenalin levels have finally returned to normal no harm's been done - I doubt it could have penetrated the skin with its tiny teeth but our girl doesn't take any crap (our boy's a big wuss) so the potential for disaster was there  - but what was it all about??  From the greyness on its muzzle it wasn't a young dog.  It had obviously not been having a good day, hence the initial telling off but what was the back story?  I'll never know but, as these boards make painfully clear, you can't be too careful when you take your dogs out.

Safe walking, everyone!

No but it could have got stuck in your dog's throat on the way down and choked it to death ;-)

Sorry, I know it's not funny, but the picture in my head of this tiny dog thinking it could take yours on is just... well there are no words, rabid hamster...mmmm I will have to remember that one. The trouble with little dogs is that they are the only ones that don't know they are little, small in stature big on attitude :-p  One of mine was attacked by a small dog when he was 12 weeks old, at that age a small dog would be the same size as him and consequently he can be a little sharp with dogs his size but ok with small ones. He is ok if introduced properly but if they come at him and get in his face especially if they are barking he will react. He has never bitten another dog and I always put him on a lead and make him sit nicely and wait when strangers approach but I have had several discussions with people that still allow their dogs to charge up to him and then they get snapped at. He never starts anything with another dog, he only reacts to their behaviour towards him but knowing that wouldn't make me feel any better if he bit one.

OMG, ok I'm now seeing myself as very lucky to have had Nemo he didn't bite or snap at all infact he barely yapped. As for chewing he had a passion for my shoes or toys but never anything else. I hope my next one is as well behaved :)
