Hi guys i'm only new at this forum, but i was wondering if anyone could help. I have an anemic dog and other than vitamin b supplements does anyone have any ideas she is a cavalier king charles and she has had 2 litters but is so thin you can feel her spine and when i took her to the vet she could feel all her internal organs.
I dont fuss over her eating but she is the thinest she has ever been she only weighs 5kg and my cat weighs 4. pls help.

...are you sure your dog is anemic and not suffering from Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency like fiona18's GSD (see the post a few lines down)? Weight loss is a symptom of EPI...just a thought.

What exactly has your vet told you it is ? Is it Autoimmune Hemolytic Anaemia ? Has she been wormed as hookworm can cause anaemia ?

ALL THE VET HAS TOLD ME IS SHE IS ANEMIC AND THAT THEY COULDNT FIND AN UNDERLYING REASON FOR IT.
I ACCIDENTLY RAN OVER HER WHEN I WAS REVERSING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY  ABOUT 2 WKS BEFORE I NOTICED THE CHANGE.
I FELT SO BAD I WAS GOING VERY SLOWLY AND SHE JUMPED OUT OF MY PARTNERS ARMS AS I USUALLY TAKE HER EVERYWHERE WITH ME AND SHE WANTED TO COME TOO.
SO THE VET SAID IT COULD BE FROM LOSS OF BLOOD.
BUT NOW I HAVE NOTICED SHE IS DROOLING A LOT.
SHE ISNT EATING SOMETIMES SHE WILL GO DAYS WITHOUT EATING, SHE IS DRINKING OK AND POOING OK.

Did the vet do a blood test to prove she was anemic?  Or did he just look at her gums?  Pale gums are an indicator of pain or shock (quite common after being run over I would have thought......)  The drooling may also come from pain in the mouth area - maybe her teeth need checking?

I would take her back to the vet, it is no good trying to correct the anaemia without finding the underlying cause.

You need to find out what is causing the anaemia - have you vets said or is she still undergoing tests? What is her PCV count?

The treatment for simple anaemia is usually Iron tablets/injections and/or folic acid, anaemia itself can cause weight loss but it could be that as your bitch is so very thin that there is an underlying problem causing the anaemia.  For example, a large proportion of Coeliacs present as anaemic and are subsequently diagnosed, correct diet usually corrects the amaemia as the gut heals.

When did she have the litters? how far apart? is she still feeding pups? What is the bitch fed on and how much? Is the bitch eating well, but still losing weight? are her faeces normal?? if not how are they abnormal, things like this can point to different diagnoses.

What checks did the vet do after she was run over? was she scanned or x rayed? Could she have internal injuries? Was she in 100% good health before? I would be tempted to get a second opinion if this was my dog, the vet should be investigating the cause of this anaemia more deeply if its onset is since the accident.

Gosh that would be my 100% concern that this stems from the injury, internally or head injury.  Especially new symptoms of drooling etc.

Sometimes the smallest of knock can have the biggest affect especially on a little dog.

I would insist tests especially x-rays etc are done if they have not been done already.  Ditto the second opinion.

Good luck
