I am going to be taking my 18 week old Rhodesian Ridgeback Lexy to ringcraft for the first time on Monday, should i get a show lead now or will a normal lead be ok to start??
Thank in advance

Get a show lead ASAP - the dogs learn to associate the lead with what they are expected to do.

A normal lead won't kill, however it's best to get the dog used to associating a lead for showing and a lead for walking etc.

Due to the normall bulkiness of normal leads they are much harder then a finer showlead, but if your dogs not used to a finer lead do introduce gradually in familiar soundings first rather then the frist time you dog having the feel of this new lead in a new, strang place.

Thanx, What lead should i go for, she does pull a bit even more when she exited and she is a strong little tike. At the moment i use a half check collar and a normal woven fabric lead??

For a puppy I would use a cloth slip lead.  Nothing expnsive (so when it gets chewed you don't get too upset) I believe RR's are showen on check chains and lead when in the ring however I don't like putting chains on young puppies.  and normally won't buy them one untill I know their size so I only buy one per a dog!

A cloth slip is ideal, try to find one that is soft on your hands.  I would be look at about 1 cm thick aswell :)

Good luck.  I good place for leads is luxway cannie supplies.  Can be found at champ shows and have a mail order aswell.
