This is bagless, cyclonic & has a Hepa filter. I saw it in the Argos  catalogue. It's also aroung £100 or less, and the company supports Battersea Dogs Home. Has anyone used it?

I would be interested in hearing feedback on this too, in my quest to find the perfect hoover. Seems a very reasonable price too...
I wonder if it has been featured in the Which? Guide?

Hi Carene, I've got a Morphy Ruchards Hepa cyclone, ultralight 1600w, and it works much better than the Electrolux I had before and as good as the dyson. I got mine from Currys, can't remember if it was £79 or £89. You also get a spare filter and belt with it.

I've just registered & read the Which guide and now I'm even more confused....there is a similar Morphy Richards model which they say doesn't pick up the dust well, although it's good for animal hair. The Dyson models come out well on performance but not on reliability..even Henry - my current machine - doesn't do well, and to think I've lived with him very happily for nearly 10years..the only reason we've embarked on this quest is that he's not terribly effective at getting black lab hairs off the fawn carpets in our bedrooms. (Laid by previous owners who must have been watching these "how to sell your house" programmes..upstairs is all painted Magnolia, too. :-(

All I can tell you is the one I just got cleans up all the hair/fur from the carpet/vetbed, has variable power/floor heights, and is great on tiled floors. It has a washable filter and comes with a spare.  Oh and once you've mastered the twist on lid, its easy to empty :)

Yep I've got it and it beats the useless Dyson animal hands down!! Bit messy to empty the canister and clean the filter but it does the job and it was cheap. :) And I've got 7 dogs and 20 odd cats indoors. :)

Thanks, that's most reassuring! As I say, according to the Which report, Henry is useless too and he isn't! By the way, Henry won't be trashed - he'll spend his retirement with my daughter, whose cleaner (don't ask..) will find him useful for stairs etc. ;-)

Marianne, is it good with the long hairs then? I find they tend to twist around the brush bar of the Dyson...

I just bought a hoover from Tesco which is bagless and designed to cope with pet hair. It was £69.69, you put it together yourself, it is small (much lighter and less bulky than the Dyson) and it has to be the best hoover I have ever owned. I am on my third Dyson now, and this Tesco hoover (by Electrolux) is just the best thing ever. My partner was so taken with how good it was he even hoovered the whole house (a very rare occurance!!!) My next purchase will be the Bissell carpet shampooer (a small area upright carpet and bare floor shampooer) for my hard floors downstairs and my carpets upstairs (in preparation for a puppy leaving little stains on the carpet!).

I have a Dyson Animal and can't say I'm that impressed.  It is OK but not worth how much was paid for it.  I have a bissell carpet shampooer and I have to say that was the best purchase I ever made.  I've recently moved into a new house with carpets (my last place had laminate downstairs!) and it is fab.  I'm actually thinking of replacing the carpet with carpet because the bissell is just like using a vacuum cleaner.  Clean them once a month to keep them fresh and you couldn't even smell the dogs and I have 4, all of them the type that love to get wet, muddy, roll in unmentionables and eat smelly things.

Have you got the big bissell? I know you can get a Bissell small area upright carpet and bare floor cleaner for £79, which is what I am going to get. I am really pleased with my Tesco hoover, I really am. I am going to be very extravagent and get a second one!

My brother in law has just started working for Kirby vacuum cleaners, have u heard of them? They're not sold in shops but people come round your house to demonstrate and in the process it collects about 11 bag fulls of dust! It is good, although if you had 2 and half thousand pounds to spare I'm sure you'd rather use it for something else, not on a hoover!!!

Yes, I remember Kirby well - my son started his selling career with them many years ago - and wasted many fruitless hours carrying out his demonstrations for people who had no intention of buying. :-( However I seem to remember he was "salesman of the year", and has gone on to have a very successful career in sales - but not vacuum cleaners! :D :D

We finally decided on the bagless Electrolux from Tesco.com, with Hepa filter and rotating turbo brush. Ordered it Mon pm, it arrived yesterday afternoon. Dogs were very excited and helped unpack! They were a bit surprised when it was switched on, though, as it's a bit noisier than Henry. However, the bedroom carpets are now back to their original beige..( :-( not our choice..) so it seems to work OK . :-)

I think that is the same one I bought recently and I think it is amazing. We were shocked at how much it took up, and it seems a lot more efficient than my old Dyson ever was. Is it the one that is designed for pets? The one I bought by Electrolux from Tescos has a special pet hair attachment (although I am not sure how it will cope with lot dog hair), but I am really pleased and it was just under £70 so a lot easier on the pocket than a Dyson Animal! I am even going to get another one I am so chuffed with it!

Yes, it sounds the same! :-) :-).
