My cavi dog (16 mths) is very bad tempered towards my other girl cavi (20 mths).  She's obviously in charge and absolutely floors him when he tries to pinch her chewy.  He's sweet but a funny scruffy little thing.  He's KC reg but I'm sure he wasn't bred very well .. he has the palet thing ie. where his tongue hangs out and he goes absolutely crazy if he sees any animal on the TV.  I thought cavis were supposed to be very friendly and sweet natured??

? In what way is he nasty ? pinching chews is normal as is a bitch being in charge

Palet thing? Sorry you have lost me

One of ours barks at dogs on the TV but thats not being nasty

I'm puzzled too...How can you say he is bad tempered when your girl "floors him" for trying to take her chew? Presumably he doesnt attack her to get the chew? They are both, from what you describe, acting quite normally.

Thats what I was thinking our two youngest are always pinching chews etc & our GSD bitch keeps them all in order

I had 2 male Cavaliers - litter brothers - who got on very well together - except when they had chews - then World War 3 could break out. I have to admit it was so long ago I can't actually remember how I handled it...but if it was now I'd separate them when they had chews or other very high value objects. Cavaliers are renowned for having good temperaments but it can never be guaranteed.

I have four cavaliers who live in perfect harmany ....except when there are chew sticks about it's just 2 of mine that want each others all the time ........I do seperate them off when the chews are out
I wouldn't call that nasty !

I believe food is the main reason for fighting amongst dogs. My oldest boy will not let any of the others near if he wants to play with a toy, has a treat or his dinner. My two girls know their place - Mum is not approached while she eats her dinner, or a treat and her daughter would not dream of doing so, and my youngest boy is a guzzle guts and bolts his dinner and treats in the hope of pinching someone elses. As a result, only the girls are fed in the same room, the boys are separated from the girls and each other. Dishes are removed before they get together again, and everything remains peaceful.

My parents have a cavalier and she can get a bit snarly towards my working cocker if there are toys involved.  We hide everything "precious" when they get together.  She is as sweet as pie the rest of the time and doesn't mind playing with her toys with humans.
